GotSome, aka Alex Homes and Adam Gorsky, are a UK production duo set to imminently explode onto the house scene. Previously recording as two parts of Forget Me Not (who saw releases on imprints such as Hypercolour’s Losing Suki and Alfresco Disco Records), they are perhaps best known to date for the B.Traits-championed ‘Bassline’, soon to be released on Defected.
Ahead of what will surely prove to be one of the most impressive debuts of the year, here they drop an hour of appropriately meaty basslines for In Their House.
‘Bassline’ has proved to be immensely popular, and it isn’t even out yet! Why do you think it’s struck a chord with so many DJs?
It's a simple track but with a big hook. There's a strong nod to the sounds of early house for the heads, and a catchy vocal for those just getting into the scene. There's also a rawness to the production that gives it an energy when it's played through a PA. You can't really go wrong with a slamming kick drum and some analogue synth bass.
How important do you think it is for an artist to be versatile, rather than sticking to a tried and tested sound or method?
I [Adam] have been DJing for over 10 years, playing everything from regular student gigs to underground dnb raves. We were also both in a number of bands together and Alex engineered those bands alongside scoring for media and television. We draw from a huge range of musical interests, and that's where versatility really matters. If you enjoy a wide range of music, then the records you make will always have something fresh and original about them. That being said, it's probably not a good idea to go too off the rails as you'll confuse your audience. There's something exciting about setting yourself boundaries, but then being as creative as possible within them.
All three records on the Bassline EP are very distinct… was this a conscious decision for your debut?
We wanted to show people from the off that we are not a one trick pony. The tracks were actually all written at different times, but they still work really well together. It gives a good overview of where we're at and where we've come from, but we're also really excited about what we've got in the pipeline as it expands on these sounds.
Tell us about the mix… when and where was it recorded?
It was recorded last month in the studio in Bristol. We wanted to combine tracks that we had been feeling over the summer with some of our own, and also chuck in a couple of specials. It was a really good process for us to sit down and explore different ways to mix our tracks, and to see how we could stick stuff together.
Any particular records on there you’d like to highlight?
Hardrive ‘Deep Inside’. It’s massive and one of my [Adam's] biggest influences. And 'Look Right Through', which has to be one of the biggest tunes this year.
What are your ambitions over the next year or so?
We just want to put out some good music and play it to as many people as possible. We're really looking forward to setting up a new studio in Bristol where we can get all the kit hooked up. This will give us more of an opportunity to get cracking on an album and start thinking about a live set as well.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?
Keep an eye out for some massive remixes of Bassline over the next few months, and our next EP, which will be out towards the beginning of next year…. Oh, and always wear ear plugs at raves. You've only got one set of ears!
