Not About You
Honey Dijon makes a triumphant return to Classic Music Company with ‘Not About You’ from her forthcoming album ‘Black Girl Magic’. Now available on limited edition upfront grey vinyl, Honey teams up with emerging Atlanta talent, singer/songwriter Hadiya George on this aptly timed ode to our human ability to be selfless. The A-Side features the original mix, illustrating Honey’s dedication to absorbing, living and breathing dance music’s origins, while exploring a new sound that offsets the darker, tougher elements of her catalogue. As Hadiya’s confounded vocal narrates, “why you always got to play the fool, that’s why I wrote this song for you,” the flawless production forms the backdrop, weaving deep grooves and rhythms with fluttering, melodic keys and Honey’s signature dancefloor-ready flare. On the flip, London-based producer and DJ KDA delivers his ‘Legacy’ Remix, with energetic keys and a jacked-up bassline giving a club-ready feel. This 12” package also features his ‘Did I Ask’ Dub, a gloriously stripped-back mix destined for the dancefloor dancefloor. Demonstrating his intriguing style, KDA’s two mixes demonstrate his ability to keep you guessing, throwing in a few funk-fuelled curve balls to keep dancers on their toes. Steeped in the sounds of the Chicago nightclubs Honey grew up in, this empowered, glossy EP is an inspired preview of what is to come on this anticipated album.
La Femme Fantastique
The inimitable Honey Dijon delivers the second single from her forthcoming album ‘Black Girl Magic’, ‘La Femme Fantastique’. Continuing to be a magnet for the most forward-thinking and exciting artists, here Honey teams up with London based DJ, producer and vocalist Josh Caffe. Capturing the energy of a hot and steamy dancefloor in full flow, ‘La Femme Fantastique’ shows Honey’s unapologetic, hedonistic and achingly cool style at its finest, producing a cut destined to excite selectors of the highest order. As Josh’s captivating vocal narrates, the hypnotic lyrics are echoed in Honey’s mesmerising production, with this industrial and electrifying club cut set to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2020.
Honey Dijon returns with the third single from her sophomore album ‘Black Girl Magic’, ‘Downtown’, featuring Annette Bowen and Nikki-O. Honey’s latest delivery of pitch-perfect house, laden with rippling synths and crisp instrumentals, also includes three mixes from Master At Work Louie Vega on this special 12” delivery. With Honey’s blissful dedication to the dancefloor opening the release, Louie Vega’s House 90Mood Mix follows, with deep, swelling pads and expressive keys that form a fitting ode to the 90s sound conceived by Louie and his contemporaries. On the flip, Louie’s Raw Dub Mix transports the listener to the dancefloor, as flickers of Anette and Nikki’s vocal purl over a striding bassline and sultry percussion. Finally, Louie’s Downtown Disco Dub Mix closes out the package, a glossy club cut brimming with atmospheric synths and swirls of vocal, crafted to divine effect. Coming as the third cut from Honey’s upcoming LP, ‘Downtown’ is another shimmering and irresistible example of her production finesse, with Louie’s accompanying mixes as sublimely executed as to be expected from a bona fide house master.
