Lady of the House - Stories of Women in Dance Music

In stock

The D-Store are pleased to be stocking Lady of the House, an exquisitely produced coffee table book that champions, honours and celebrates the women of dance music. Compiled by Laila McKenzie and Ian ‘Snowy’ Snowball, the book features exclusive interviews and never-before-seen photography, charting the illustrious history of women’s impact on the industry. Featuring DJs, producers, artists and key industry figures from behind-the-scenes, interviews with icons such as Candi Staton, Barbara Tucker and Jocelyn Brown, and present-day advocates like Sam Divine, Charlotte de Witte and Nina Kraviz guide the narrative for Lady of the House, while cementing the legacy of the invaluable work these women have done to further equality within the industry.

“Get your branding on point because you have to sell yourself as a brand. You have to fully live it, breathe it, sleep it.” -Sam Divine

“You know what, you just have to keep doing it. You should never stop until you get it right. And if you really want to be an artist you’ve got to be able to take the no’s, and you go to do a lot of things you don’t understand.”- Candi Staton

“What’s important to me when people hear my music, is that they can feel me. I want you to be able to feel my heart. “ - Jocelyn Brown

Rich with stories of determination, empowerment, inspiration, challenges and realising dreams, the authors of the book will donate £1 from every sale to the Night Time Industries Association’s (NTIA) Savenightlife CIC, to further develop its diversity and inclusion initiative, which aims to ensure access to equal rights and protection for all women within the industry.
