DJ Hero, the upcoming spin-off of the hugely popular games console series Guitar Hero, will reportedly retail at £107.99 according to reports from one online retailer this week. Produced by major games company Activision, the package is due for an Xmas-timed release, November 27, but is a significant jump in cost from Guitar Hero, which first retailed at around £70. In the States, DJ Hero is expected to launch at just £73.
With no firm guarantee that dance music mash-ups and DJ mimic gimmicks will prove as popular with console consumers as rock ‘n’ rolling, many commentators are casting doubt on Activision’s rumoured pricing strategy. Developed over several months, DJ Hero has had significant ‘consultancy’ input from the likes of DJ Shadow, Jay-Z and Eminem. The game promises tracks from those three to play along with, as well as material from Daft Punk and N.E.R.D, and artists in genres such as grunge, soul and techno.
