Every once in a while a track comes around which reaches the dizzy heights without any radio playtime, a true underground anthem. Infectious vocals and deep groovy bassline were a common factor in a lot of big underground hits when deep house started to get picked up by a younger audience, but none as impactful as Solomun’s Vox Mix of Noir & Haze 'Around', with a whopping 58 million views. The catchy track was dubbed remix of the year by Resident Advisor and saw the rise of Solomun as he was named Mixmag's 'DJ of The Year' 2012. 'Around' caught the imagination of ravers all over the world and is still doing the damage to this day, with our recently found white label copies of the record selling out in minutes on the DStore. The ultimate modern-day underground anthem. We took a look back on some other big underground hits.

Azari & III - Hungry For The Power (Jamie Jones Ridge Street Mix)

Jamie Jones had success in 2011 with his remix of Azari & III 'Hungry for the power', an Ibiza anthem which crossed over the pond to dominate clubs and festivals all over the UK, reaching 24 million plays on a single YouTube video. Jamie would go on to become one of the biggest starts in the scene today.

Infinity Ink - Infinity

Another track from the era where deep house was starting to catch the attention of more and more young ravers was Infinity Ink's 'Infinity', racking up 31 million views and paving the way for the chart success of their band, Hot Natured. The underground group's most popular single Benediction became a crossover hit entering the UK top 40 and accumulating 7 million plays, bringing the music to a new audience and contributing to the success of other crossover acts like Duke Dumont and Disclosure.

Finnebassen - Touching Me

Not content with just producing great records, Noir also runs his own label who have released some huge records over the years, including 'Around'. Finebassen's 'Touching Me' was released on the imprint in 2012 and has since been played 26 million times. The track samples vocals from an old R&B record by Allure called 'Head Over Heels'.

Flashmob - Need In Me

Released on Defected mid 2012, flashmob's 'Need In Me' has accumulated over 20 million views, again an Ibiza anthem and the best selling Defected record of the year 2012.

Tube & Berger - Imprint Of Pleasure

Imprint of pleasure is another track which has racked up the plays on YouTube. The track by popular German duo Tube & Berger strays away from the formula used on so many big underground records, sampling plucked guitar and a spoken word sample. This emotive beat has 29 million views.

Miguel Campbell - Something Special

Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, the lead members of Hot Natured are no stranger to curating hit records. Having already featured on the list of underground anthems, they were again behind this entry from Miguel Campbell. 'Something Special' was released on Hot Creations, the label run by Jamie and Lee has become one of the biggest underground labels around. Miguels effort hit over 12 million plays.

Todd Terje - Inspector Norse

Todd Terje released a 15 minute documentary featuring a crazed Norweigan who owns a tanning salon and makes his own legal drugs, Todd say’s the track was inspired by the character. The video turned out to be a mockumentary, but ‘Inspector Norse’ went on to hit 10 million views, and become one of the standout performances of Glastonbury 2015 when Todd performed the track live with The Olsens.
