Azuli celebrate the global dominance of the Dutch house sound with two of the rising stars of the scene and their new Azuli Amsterdam ’11 compilation.
Rarely does a city give birth to such an instantly recognisable sound within dance music culture, but Amsterdam had done just that, with a legacy that has swept around the world in the last few years. Born out of club scene that is vibrant and in immaculate health, Amsterdam now plays host to Europe’s must go to dance music event ADE, and has in recent years become an essential destination of any self-respecting clubber’s calendar.
In recent years DJs such as Laidback Luke, Sidney Sampson and Afrojack have seemingly spearheaded a national crusade to take over the worlds download portals, stadiums and dance floors. These guys have put the spotlight on Amsterdam and subsequently cleared the way for a new set of fresh DJs to push through and make their mark. Now, two of these unquestionable standout talents have been called up to front the new compilation from Azuli; step forward Franky Rizardo and Roul and Doors.
Franky Rizardo is a burgeoning star, already a close collaborator with Sidney Sampson and a whole host of other big Dutch DJs. He’s already delivered remixes for Erick E, Sander Van Doorn, and Fedde Le Grand and recently worked alongside Bart B More. His focus on quality drum programming and exploration of Latin percussion and tribal rhythms sets him apart. His recent release ‘Caracoles’ sounded like something that DJ Gregory may have crafted, sophisticated Afro beats beautifully delivered by an exciting new artist.
Roul and Doors are a DJ/production duo well known for dropping big anthems and being key players in representing the Dutch House sound. They count Teisto, Steve Angello, Felix Da Housecat amongst their supporters and their releases always punch through to the top of the dance charts. Their EPs Forget/Gita and Trinidad/Assiduity have been doing serious damage in their native Holland and beyond, with remixes for Bob Sinclar and Guy Robin showing real diversity in their sound.
Both acts have now delivered exceptional and diverse mixes for Azuli, accurately reflecting Holland’s club sound and including tracks that will be consuming dance floors all over ADE.
