Italian trio Daddy's Groove mix Azuli's annual tribute to Holland's dance music capital.

Gianni Romano, Carlo Grieco, and Peppe Folliero are the powerful musical force known collectively as Daddy's Groove; household names in their native Italy and fast making an impact on the global stage. Azuli Amsterdam ’12 is a mix that presents the present musical passions of, and past influences on one of the fastest-rising EDM groups in the world, and features cuts from Plastikman, Secret Cinema, Hard Rock Sofa and Wolfgang Gartner as well as their own exclusive new track P.I.M.P.

The release is split into two distinct mixes, ‘Where We Are’ and ‘How We Got Here’, representing the current Daddy’s Groove’s sound and their classic influences respectively. “It was great to be able to compile that kind of tracklist” they say of the selection process. “We’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the classics we have chosen throughout our career, so we thought it was really important to show the younger generation of listeners our musical heritage”.

From the unmistakably harsh percussive rhythms of Plastikman’s ‘Spastik’ and acid bounce of Joey Beltram’s ‘Engery Flash’ to brand new cuts from Congorock, Third Party and Daddy’s Groove themselves, Azuli Amsterdam is a frenetically paced yet painstakingly mixed ride through the minds of one of the most prolific and exciting dance acts in the world.

Daddy’s Groove, formed back in 2006, immediately struck a chord with the dance music fraternity keen to employ their unique production aesthetic. Projects on indies like Axtone, Defected Records and Strictly Rhythmwere quickly followed by interest from the majors and remixes for the likes of Kylie Minogue, James Blunt and the legendary Whitney Houston.

Daddy’s Groove’s profile has undoubtedly benefited from the recent surge in interest in EDM from the US, and it was their unequivocal success on this stage that lead to them being made residents of David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous at Pacha this season; an achievement of which they are extremely proud. “It was fantastic to play there!” they say of the experience. “Such a great atmosphere…every single night was special; we have had a great time.”

Their experience as both DJs and producers of the very highest order made them an ideal choice to mix and compile Azuli Amsterdam ’12, a mix that celebrates the ever-increasing musical diversity of a city now recognised as one of the world’s dance music bastions.
