Ahead of the release of Bargrooves Ibiza 2013, compiler and mixer Andy Daniell gives us the lowdown on some of the choice cuts from the compilation.

Rachel Row – Follow The Step (Original Mix)

One of the tunes of Miami thanks for the amazing KiNK and Justin Martin remixes, but the original mix should not be discounted at all. It’s a beautiful broken beat track that lets the stunning song just breathe; a real moment record for me.

Guti – Hope

The first release on DFTD records was the Hope EP from the cosmic gentleman that is Guti and rightly this has been getting a huge amount of love in Ibiza this summer. This record just screams Balearic at you. Positive lyrics, warm sound, dreamy synths, this record was made to listen to as the sun comes up and if you’re watching that, you know you’ve done Ibiza in the right way!

Alfred Taylor – Kuza

You may be less familiar with the name Alfred Taylor, but I’m sure you are aware of him as one half of house heavyweight duo, Dusky. This record, on the ever-consistent Anjuna Deep label, just grabs me in the right way; deep, warm, great vocal snippets, constantly building synths and smatterings of piano. It’s a lovely record that puts a smile on my face.

Pitto – You

Another release on the DFTD imprint from Dutch artist Pitto. You may be aware of his previous releases on Joris Voorn’s Rejected label but he takes a slight musical side step for this one. He’s come up with a great riff that he just works to perfection topped with his own vocals. This record is already striking a chord with people like Noir who’s said it’s his tune of the summer; high praise indeed.

Finnebassen – Touching Me

An older record I know but it’s hard to ignore Finnebassen this season in ibiza. He’s been made resident for Sankeys and has been playing sterling sets that everyone is talking about. He is the king of the deeper disco sound to me and this record is perfect example of why. Great record.

Chasing Kurt – From The Inside

Chasing Kurt is a hot new trio that I’m very excited about. The act consists of 2 producers and a vocalist and this record is the highlight of their current album which is out on Suol Music.  The vocals on this record just stand out by a long way to lot of music that is around at the moment. Quality always shines through.

The Tooth Faeries – Dust & Ashes (Crooked Dust)

This just came out on the excellent Classic Music Company record & was made by Pipes & Mark Bridon (Of Moloko fame). It’s an infectious rolling grooves that really gets under your skin and a vocal that just sits on top perfectly. It’s over 11 minutes long, but I never get bored for a second of it.

Py – Polyethers (Jimmy Edgar Remix)

Jimmy Edgar is a producer that has been around for a long time and making some very forward-thinking music. It’s great to see him don his house cap on this remix for Champion Records. This record is already a firm favourite with Pete Tong and it’s easy to see why.
