Ever popular London imprint Barely Breaking Even will release an interesting new comp early next month devoted to the soulful club sounds that swept through West Germany at the height of the Cold War in the 1980s.
Compiled by Berlin DJs Kalle Kuts and Daniel W Best, G.I. Disco reflects the soulful but analogue-driven US club sounds that were brought into West Germany by Yank troops stationed there during the historic East-West stand-off.
German clubs close to US army barracks were major supporters, as were DJs such as Steve Kastelac, whose radio show was distributed throughout West Germany by the American Forces Network.
The new comp, out October 4, promises a tasty snapshot of micro-scene, including classic 80s cuts by Timex Social Club (Rumors,) Freeez (IOU,) and Caprice (100%.)
