Mixer and compiler Andy Daniell picks outs some of the strand-out tracks from the Defected presents Beach Clubbing compilation.

Beach Clubbing is more than just a collection of tracks. With it, it was our sole intention to bottle the hedonistic spirit of al fresco clubbing in a way that has not been done before. This is the first compilation to be solely dedicated to this particular form of outdoor partying, and each track has been carefully selected as best enjoyed with the sun on your face and the wide blue sky stretching endlessly overhead.

Sure, these tracks also work in the club, but for us – and hopefully you’ll agree with us here – they shine that little bit brighter when experienced on the beach, at a festival, or anywhere you’re not confined by four walls and a ceiling. Here’s Andy Daniell to tell us why…

Hot Natured feat. Ali Love – Forward Motion

Hot Natured is Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, two incredibly talented producers in their own rights but teamed up it seems like there is something exceptional happening. For me this is a real stand out record of the summer and also of the year. It’s also the perfect track to kick off the CD.

Ray Foxx – Butterflies

I’m sure by now will be aware of the anonymous Mr Foxx from his rather HUGE record the Trumpeter. Butterflies show’s a very different side to his production arsenal. It rolls on an awesome bass driven deeper groove, with flashes of summery acoustic guitar and a beautful vocal hook, oh & this compilation is the only place you’ll have heard this record.

Oliver $ -  Doin Ya Thang

Oliver $ (pronounced Oliver Dollar) is a super dope producer from Jesse Rose’s Made 2 Play camp and this record has just BLOWN UP. It was released on Jesse’s ‘Play it Down’ label which releases records with no promo so the fact it was at Beatport number 1 for 3 weeks with supporters as diverse as David Guetta through to the cream of the underground. From what I hear it’s been one of the tracks on the season over on Ibiza’s beaches too.

Taras Van De Voorde – The Game

Tara’s is an awesome new producer from Holland. I first clocked him last year with his awesome 1998 release on Rebirth. The Game is a real step up in my opinion. Superb sun soaked pianos and good vibes, so good Pete Tong made it an essential new tune. Look out for this guys he’s one to watch!

Benoit & Sergio - Everybody

This record is B-side of an EP on James Murphy’s always excellent DFA records out of New York. It’s a slight departure from Benoit & Sergio’s usual sound but wow, what a departure. The bassline has to heard a big system to get 110% of its impact, but it sounds pretty huge on iPod speakers already. The record just drips sunshine and good vibes, it’s what house is about for me!

Silicone Soul – Right On, Right On

I like to have at least one classic in most compilations I put together and what better classic than this one! Silicone Soul’s finest hour in my humble opinion. This record first broke back in 2002 maybe 2003 at the WMC and has never gone away. Still an Ibiza and disco house classic, no mean feat..just how good does this record make you feel??

Rogerseventytwo – You Take Me Higher

Word on the street is this record has been around for 2-3 years before getting picked up by the eagle eye of A-Trak for his trend setting Fools Gold imprint. It’s a slice of superb sample based house music which is enjoying a huge resurgence at the moment, much to my delight! You only have to play this record out to see just how incredible the crowd reactions are…all hands skyward!

Trescem – Turn On The Music (Dino Lenny Remix)

“Turn on the music that can make me feel alive” that’s an awesome lyric and it forms the foundation to this great record from the anonymous trio Trescem (Three Idiots in Italian, is that a clue to their identities?). Dino Lenny jumps on the remix and pushes all the right buttons for me, letting the groove breathe where it needs to. Awesome record.

Human Life – In It Together (Directors Cut Remix)

Surely the sunset tracks of the year. The Director’s Cut is house music godfather and all round legend Frankie Knuckles alongside the best key player in the game Eric Kupper. They’ve turned their eyes to remixing Human Life’s already awesome original and what a job they have done. They kept the mix simple, didn’t reinvent the wheel but still did exactly what needed to be done, restraint is a sign of true genius.

Franky Rizardo – Caracoles

Franky Rizardo is an incredibly talented young producer, again from Holland, there must be something in the water there. He’s just signed to Defected & this is his first single for us. It’s a great, slightly more pumping afro house track that will get the bikinis shaking all over the world. I’m very excited about this guy’s future!

Roul & Doors & Michael Mendoza - Trinidad

Speaking of the future, Roul and Door are another hot prospect. Fresh off their EP on Azuli record the guys have made a new EP for Defected. I was starting to get into the more peaktime side of the CD so this fitted perfectly, but still retains that al fresco vibe I was trying to capture.

Lovebirds – Want You In My Soul

I first came across with record when I was working with Tensnake on his ITH compilation. He used Hot Toddy’s remix. I wanted a record that acted almost like an encore, switching the tone of the compilation as a great last record and this was perfect. A stunning production and wow what a song! I loved signing off the comp with this record and its vibe sums up the entire CD in my opinion.
