This October, Defected move to warmer shores with the latest instalment of its decidedly different outdoor clubbing series; Beachclubbing Pacific.

As the Mediterranean summer season draws to a close, the focus of Beachclubbing moves away from Ibiza and the rest of Europe and to the many exceptional party destinations in Bali, Australia, Singapore and beyond.

Having introduced the concept of a compilation entirely dedicated to the spirit of al fresco partying with the first edition of Beachclubbing, we now continue to explore the theme with a new collection of sun-drenched tracks, carefully selected to represent the very finest in current and classic house music.

CD1 represents the in-vogue style of house music; one that is that little bit slower and focuses on dope, wandering basslines and understated but infectious vocals, and kicking things off is a prime example of a track that encapsulates the mood of house music in 2011. Miguel Campell’s ‘Something Special’ bucks the trend of sampling with an original, R&B-esque vocal, warming pads and a deep, ponderous bassline that caresses all the right places.

Other inclusions of note include two outings for Eric Estornel under his Maceo Plex guise. As Maceo Plex, Estornel has been one of the most talked about producers of the year, and with an artist album and a host of underground club hits under his belt has been near faultless with each and every beat he has dropped. The inclusions here – the incredible Falling and his evocative remix of DJ T’s City Life – show him at the very top of his game.

Something that cannot have escaped any true house music devotee this year is how the sounds and influence of records produced decades ago have found their place in modern productions and D sets. If house music is cyclical, then in 2011 that rotation moved full circle so that producers who started out when house music was in its infancy found themselves more relevant than ever before. Proof of this is that tracks from new artists such as Maya Jane Coles and Joyce Muniz can here sit effortlessly alongside veterans of the scene like MK and Ian Pooley, each track sounding as fresh as the other.

The mixture of current-versus-classic continues into CD2, with seminal artists like Frankie Knuckles and Isolee happily rubbing shoulders with contemporary producers such a Flight Facilities, Copyright and Tuccillo, as well as an exclusive airing of the new track from Nouveau Yorican – a production group made up of Laidback Luke and Gina Turner – which demonstrates the happy marriage of the classic acid sound to fresh, dancefloor-aimed beats.

The breadth of talent on display here is impressive, but even more so is the cohesion with which music, artists and influences spanning such a long time-frame have been combined to create the mix. Best experienced with the sun on your face and your arms raised under a cloudless blue sky, we here invite you to join the Beachclubbing movement…
