Hola mi amigos!
A personal favourite of mine arrived on the Island this week – Florence and The Machine! I’m not normally one to idolize someone but Florence Welch is an exception. She made me finally accept that red hair is ok, but sadly I have to instead now dye it as I passed the ginger phase way back when it was still completely unacceptable to have it (a highlight of my early teenage years) and it turned a boring shade of mousey brown. She wears clothes I like to pick in vintage shops which everyone used to tell me were weird. I love her and she has made me feel a little more normal. I first met her at Glastonbury last year. Me and my friends were super excited as we had the honour of going to the toilet with her at a party backstage!
She has the exact fairy like mischievousness that she portrays on stage and here she was once more in front of me, one year later at the Ibiza Rocks hotel. On she came following a huge introduction from her good friend, Nick Grimshaw, to us singing ‘Happy Birthday’ with a huge smile on her face in the most amazing blue sequin dress with drapes of nude chiffon around it that floated up behind her in the breeze in the most mystical fashion. She went straight into ‘Howl’ and followed on with hit after hit from her ‘Lungs’ album, whilst running around the stage barefoot with her arms doing most of the dancing. She occasionally stopped to thank everyone for coming and make it clear she was VERY happy to be in Ibiza (the girl definitely likes to party!). I just hope she went to Flower Power at Pacha that night after I recommended it to a girl in the VIP who just so happened to be one of her friends and was staying out here in a villa with her and the rest of the party crew who I suspect included Tabitha from Queens of Noize. The celebs really were out in force with Norman Cook watching her with his kid and Kelis who was out the night before her Pacha appearance. Florence was Fantastic!
Although I envy most things about Florence, unlike her, I still want tanned skin so I popped to another amazing beach this week. Cala d’Hort is not only a fantastic beach but one of the best places to view Es Vedra from. This huge rock is the 2nd most magnetic point of the world after the North Pole and is truly fascinating. I set off from Santa Eularia and ignored the lit up petrol sign in my car as usual as I thought I would find somewhere nearer to the beach. Turning off from the San Josep road there was less and less sign of a petrol station which was slightly worrying but I had no choice but to carry on. It was flashing by this point, but what could I do!?
We approach Cala d’Hort and made our way down the winding steep road which was worrying me even more as we are going to have to get back up this…with a serious lack of petrol! It is pretty much a single road which would make it the worst possible place to breakdown. We both had our fingers crossed as we got down to the bottom where we were then told to turn back and head back up to park. Probably the most nail biting experience of my life and then it happened…the car conks out. How absolutely humiliating! As the parking attendant helps us push it to the side, luckily leaving just enough room for the other cars to get past, I call for help. Help can’t possibly come for another few hours so what’s a girl to kill the time? Do exactly what we came to do…go and sunbathe!
The water is crystal clear and the view of the rock reminds you of something out of Avatar. It would be fascinating to actually be able to swim across and climb up on top of it but from where I am it looks pretty impossible! Unfortunately the 2 restaurants on the beach do not serve any kind of sandwiches to take-away so go prepared as there are no nearby shops, but it was a perfect day at the beach…until we remembered we needed to get back to the car as our rescuer would arrive shortly with some petrol to keep us going!
Another exciting week had by me and just four more parties left at Pacha so make sure you get out here and see what has made Pacha the place to be this summer and why Resident Advisor totally agree!
