Buenos Dias!
Well, there has barely been room to dance on the island this past week but that’s all down to the Radio 1 weekend which entices about a quarter of the population of young people in the UK over to the White Isle to have an even better time than they could possibly imagine. It all kicked off on Thursday for Come Together at Space where Grandmaster Flash, Zane Lowe and ‘my old mate’ Mark Ronson were amongst the line-up. A newly peroxide blonde Mark Ronson and Zane Lowe were playing a game of ‘let’s see how many tracks we can fit into 5 minutes’…and the crowd were LOVING it! A couple of relatively unknown but very talented singers joined them, jumping on stage one by one, but it was time to get some disco naps before the main event; Radio 1 at Ibiza Rocks hotel the following day.
We set off in the car at 6pm the next day; the party didn’t start until 7 so we thought we were leaving plenty of time. After spending quite a while in the car looking for a parking space we approached the hotel and saw a queue going back as far as the eye could see. ‘Oh they haven’t opened yet’. WRONG! The queue was ridiculous, but luckily we bumped into some people we knew who whisked us straight through. I then found out that they had to open the doors at 11am as the mayor was complaining about the mile-long queue going through San An! The queue I had just seen were the hopefuls who were waiting in the ‘one in one out’ line. Through into the VIP and it’s a music industry convention with everyone getting their mid-season networking done, excited to see the various acts they represent about to perform on stage. Annie Mac kicks off the proceedings and plays our own ‘Coma Cat’ and ‘Hey Hey’- woohoo! And the crowd loved them! One of our favourites this summer, Riva Starr gets an amazing introduction by Annie, but before long the Swedes bowl on stage with their handheld confetti cannons and play ‘One’ to an eruption of screams. Just when you think excitement levels have peaked, Tinie Tempah joins them on stage and the place explode. 6 hours later and sadly the show is over and I am full of cider and black.
As well as being Radio 1 weekend, it’s been a bit of a celebrity week! Diana Vickers has been partying hard (I have seen her at at least 3 of the same parties) as well as my childhood hero, former CBBC presenter Toby Anstis! I've spoken to him and he asked me to go to Blue Marlin today but turns out he's been inviting all the girls he has met so I decided against it! Both him and Diana Vickers were hanging out at Defected on Saturday. Diana joined the thousands of fans down to see Bob Sinclar at Cafe Mambo for our pre-party.
It was one of the busiest I have seen and Bob Sinclar played a lovely reggae set. probably not what most people expect to hear from him but a fabulous surprise I am sure. He played fantastically at the party at Pacha later on with an extra long set following on from DJ Spen who lets the music take over his whole body, an amazing DJ to not only hear but see too. Definitely rivalled the Radio 1 party at Privilege…our best and busiest party yet!
Of course P.Diddy was here to do a performance at Subliminal on Wedneaday. I was lucky enough to be allowed into the DJ booth which was under the strictest of restrictions for the night! Of course he turned up late but he did have an array of top names to see him…Roger Sanchez and Dennis Ferrer were all there and he put on a fantastic show in a white tux! There was definitely a New York flavour in the air and he closed with ’New York, New York’ which was perhaps enjoyed the most by the man himself, Erick Morillo. Of course there was a wild afterparty which I have heard a few snippets of information about but unfortunately my mouth has to remain zipped!
It’s now time to entertain my mother who is over, so next weeks blog with be a special ‘what to do with your mother in Ibiza, and how to party at the same time!’
My camera is also broken so I may have to start drawing.
Asta luego amigos!
