Buenos dias amigos! It’s been a busy old week for parties…I’ve been to about 9 this week, culminating in the best one of course on Saturday!
Mambo was completely packed on Thursday for David Guetta’s special appearance at the pre-party. People had obviously turned up early and chosen their spots for this now pop-star-status’ set. Everyone was waiting in anticipation for the best part of an hour whilst being controlled by about 50 security guards! The F*** Me I’m Famous neon-pink bikini-clad girls were warming up the VIP area with champagne and shots before suddenly lightbulbs were flashing and people were screaming and the girls rush outside to take their positions around the decks…Guetta had arrived! He played his hits and warmed everyone up suitably for the night they had in store at Pacha (if they could find any tickets left on the island!)
After a fierce battle to get through the door once we arrived at the club we needed to cool down, so it was out to the terrace for a couple of vodka limons. Sarah Main was there who had been playing the warm-up set and we got chatting about all things shoulder pads, harem pants and bindis, all of which we agreed boys completely don’t understand but we think are uber-cool.
Back out into the main room and Cathy Guetta had entered the DJ booth. She is almost as (F*** Me I’m) Famous as David and you’ll see her alongside him in many photos. They really are the Posh and Becks of Clubland and commanded the room in style! She has a pile of light up batons which she throws out into the crowd and soon the dancefloor is going wild with everyone waving light-up signs offering sex!
In between parties this week, I decided to balance myself out a bit and do some yoga overlooking the sea. This has been a dream of mine as I am usually cramped in a room with about 50 other people with only our own sweaty faces to look at. Whilst doing my salutations I was treated to chill-out music coming from behind me and waves crashing in front of me with a cooling sea breeze to top it all off…absolutely lovely. I would definitely recommend it if you have the chance. Ibiza isn’t all about parties and there are loads of yoga retreats should you wish to get away from it all for a while.
Friday was all about Wonderland opening at Eden. After pulling up in the car we spotted an ‘older’ couple who were having a bit of trouble. My accomplice, Anna, rushed over to help this lady whose male companion couldn’t tie up the string on her trousers. They asked if we were off to see Bryan Ferry and she was obviously glad of the female help. I presumed they were off home after a meal and we walked round the front of Eden for another battle to get in and the ‘older’ couple were just in front of us! He was actually Jon Sa Trinxa, Ibiza legend! In we all go and then up to the VIP area where Bryan Ferry’s band are sipping champagne and being entertained by ‘Bryan’s girls’ in their red sequin mini dresses ready to dance around him on stage.
Rob Marmot was on the decks getting the already full dance floor going before Bryan Ferry took to the stage and smashed out a few numbers like 'In the Midnight Hour' and 'Angel Eyes'. Jon and his female companion (who would only call herself ‘the goat’) had their seats at the front of the balcony and she told me the tale of how she met Bryan Ferry on Salinas about 20 years ago and he told her his whole life story. She saw he was playing and got hold of his number to call and ask to be put on the guestlist for the evening and it worked! This woman was fascinating. She was 75 years old and has been living here for 50 years. She gave us a few wild but wise words, shared her spliff with us and we went downstairs ready for Pete Tong to take to the decks. A great night.
Of course I must mention Saturday; our fourth Party on the island this year. Copyright and David Penn both absolutely smashed it…the vibe from the crowd was amazing and it really was a great party. The Shapeshifters new tune ‘Helter Skelter’ certainly got a great reaction (watch out for their video) as did David’s own ‘Sunshine People’. More numb toes for me and sore heads for most of the people in there no doubt! ATFC, John Dahlback and Simon Dunmore this week so more fun to be had next Saturday!
I’m off to build sandcastles.
