As well as being a damn good listen from start to finish, our annual Ibiza compilation also tends to serve as an accurate barometer of the kinds of records that will make it big on the White Isle each season, and the latest instalment is shaping up to be no exception.
With over 50 tracks included over three DJs mixes there are a fair few tracks to choose from, but mixer and compiler Simon Dunmore has managed to whittle in down to just 10 cuts he thinks will make a particular big bang over the summer months and beyond.
So in the week that sees the release of Defected In The House Ibiza 2013, here’s a closer look and what we’re predicting will be heard all over the bars, beaches and clubs of Ibiza this season. We’re going on record with this, so check back in September to see if we got it right.
Rachel Row 'Follow The Step' (Original Mix)
A breakthough record if ever there was one, this KiNK produced, highly emotional record has summer anthem written all over it, the original cut is an exquisite work of art and cements Row’s reputation as an outstanding emerging talent.
FCL 'It’s You' (Flashmob Remix)
The most talked about release of the year? Quite possibly, and Flashmob’s remix is a fitting accompaniment. Their deep take on the record is another captivating groove from the Italian duo whose production skills are going from strength to strength.
Guti 'Hope'
Taken from the inaugural release of Defected’s breakout label DFTD, Guti’s ‘Hope’ might have been created with the White Isle in mind. Featuring a warm bottom end and the intoxicating use of the vocal from Jason Hates Jazz’s ‘Pray For Love’, this much lauded track has been a staple of Guti’s sets for some time now.
Breach 'Jack'
Ben Westbeech has been making bass-heavy beats under his Breach moniker for some time now, and his latest effort may well be his most accomplished release to date. Championed by pretty much everyone over at Radio 1, expect to hear this played within an inch of its life over the summer months.
Kings Of Tomorrow featuring April 'Fall For You' (Sandy Rivera's Classic Mix)
Further underlining Sandy Rivera’s status as one of the most talented and prolific house music artists of all time, ‘Fall For You’ is set to become yet another modern classic with its wandering bass line, down tempo disco-esque rhythms and April’s exquisitely soulful vocal.
Gorgon City featuring Yasmin 'Real'
Another stunning record from the ever-reliable Black Butter. Yasmin delivers one of the year’s strongest vocals, perfectly complimented by some heavy production from the Gorgon City duo. Big, in every sense of the word.
Loco Dice 'Detox'
Released on Dice’s own Desolat back in November, this deep, tribal thumper has more than enough bounce to see it safely onto the White Isle this season. Expect plays aplenty at DC10, Sankeys and at his own residency at Ushuaia.
Forget Me Not featuring The Get Along Gang 'Bassline' (Original Mix)
With (unsurprisingly, given its title) a huge bassline and featuring choppy, retro-styled production throughout, we’re expecting this to do some serious damage over the coming months. Move your waistline, yo.
Copyright featuring Donae'O 'My Desire'
The London duo team up with London singer, songwriter and rapper Donae’O for ‘My Desire’, a deep seven minute electro thump layered with synths and hand claps that drops into heads down territory in the verses and rises right back into uplifting vocal euphoria in the choruses.
Isolée 'Allowance'
Isolée Pampa Records has been enjoying an exceptional run of late, and the latest from the label’s founder is now exception. Delicate, haunting and oh-so beautiful, ‘Allowance’ is a flawless deep house record, and will surely be the soundtrack many an Ibiza ‘moment’ in 2013.
