As we enter the final few weeks of the Ibiza 2012 season, Defected A&R and FINA label boss Simon Morell presents his top 10 rundown of the year's biggest records.
10. MAM ‘Crushed Ice’
‘Crushed Ice’ has been the perfect beach or poolside track this Summer…of which im very proud of. It's even received a 2012 DJ Award nomination for a potential summer anthem. Get in !
09. Ben Pearce ‘What I Might Do’
‘What I Might Do’ has been bubbling on the underground all summer long. Supported by the likes of Seth Troxler, Solomun and Jamie Jones’ Paradise crew, its’s set to continue to build way past closing.
08. Todd Terje ‘Inspector Norse’
Released in January this year but seeing as though it just oozes Summer it’s still being dropped by everyman and his dog especially Dimitri from Paris who’s played it at each of his Pacha gigs.
07. Candi Staton ‘Hallelujah Anyway’ (Larse Vocal)
A late summer anthem and contender for ‘vocal of the season’. Candi Staton’s classic vocals can already be heard in every bar, club, beach party and boat party across the white isle..you name its getting played.
06. Noir & Haze ‘Around’ (Solomun Vox Mix)
The 2012 Ibiza season has no doubt been Solomun’s year! His sets for Defected have been the talk of the town and his own Neon night at Sankey’s has been one of the hottest new brands to hit the island. ‘Around’ has been about for over a year now, but with Solomun’s rising popularity this record has gone nowhere..still a main stay in his sets.
05. Kevin Saunderson pres. Inner City ‘Future’ (Kenny Larkin Tension Mix)
A big big record this year, everybody across the board has been dropping this hypnotic groover. Another which refuses to go away.
04. Storm Queen ‘Let’s Make Mistakes’ (Club Mix)
This has summer written all over it…and it’s been on all over Summer!! Plenty of ups and downs that never get boring...picks up right where ‘Look Right Through’ left off.
03. Lee Curtis ‘Freaks’
Richie Hawtin has consistently packed them in on a weekly basis at Space with his night Enter. A night with arguably the best concept of the summer, this is one of his season anthems and is being hammered at Circo Loco by Troxler and co.
02. Julio Bashmore ‘Au Seve’
Oh baby! I never get bored of this track and the riff will stick in your head for days, still doing the business at every club i've been to this summer!!
01. Pirupa ‘Party Non Stop’
The anthem of the summer, no signs of this track disappearing anytime soon, especially now that the remixes have just dropped. Round 2 for this one.; Carl Cox dropped this on the terrace at DC10 last Monday and the place went bananas.
