As one of the most memorable tracks from the dazzling days of disco, Chic’s ‘Le Freak’ has continued to catalyze dance floors since its initial release in 1978. One of the most commercially successful records in disco history, the track holds the distinction of being Atlantic Record’s bestselling single of all time.

According to legend, the guitar riff and ideas for the vocals were conceived after Nile Rodgers and long-time song writing partner, Bernard Edwards, were refused entry to one of New York’s most legendary clubs Studio 54. Initially invited to the party by Grace Jones, but then refused due to her failure to notify the staff, the final version of the hit replaced the original lyrics ‘F*ck off!’ with the equally memorable – if slightly less controversial – ‘Freak out!’

The second single from Chic’s second and most successful LP, ‘C’est Chic’, ‘Le Freak’ hit the US Billboard Hot 100 three times and charted across Europe to solidify Rodgers and Edwards’ reputation as one of the most influential production duos of the disco era and beyond.

Included on Dimitri From Paris Back In The House of Disco, Dimitri From Paris’s remix of ‘Le Freak’ bridges the gap between disco and house while masterfully maintaining the hedonistic essence of the original.
