Chicago, the home city of recently departed house music legend Frankie Knuckles, will host a special tribute event for the DJ-producer next week, 3 June.

Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events has organised the party on Millennium Park’s Central Promenade near the Cloud Gate. Many of Knuckles’ close friends and affiliates are set to play including long-term local spinners Mike Winston, Craig Loftis, Elbert Phillips and Greg Gray. Warehouse and Music Box founder Robert Williams and DJ Alan King (member of Chi-Town institution The Chosen Few) will offer some words at the start. The party runs 6-9pm and entry is free.

Knuckles died aged 59 on 31 March in Chicago, owing to Type II diabetes-related complications. Much of the global dance community paid tribute in the days following his death; Knuckles’ passing even prompted a public letter of condolence from US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
