Ahead of the release of Chocolate Puma In The House, the Godfathers of Dutch house talk us though some of the selection on the compilation.
Chocolate Puma - Destiny (Lorenzo Kurizu Remix)
Our friend Lorenzo Kurizu did a bootleg version of our track Destiny. We thought it was amazing and decided to give it an official release. We believe it's the perfect opening track for our compilation.
Groove Decade - Dispute
A real solid and overlooked house jam from the early '90's, still sounding very fresh. Ok, we beefed up the bass a little, but it goes down so well in our sets.
Duke Dumont - Street Walker
When we first heard this one we thought it was dope as hell. What we didn't expect is how ridiculously well the crowd responds to it. Wherever we play it, the crowd are getting their bass face on, on the tough ghetto vibe of those 808 drums.
Chez Damier - Untitled
This was a huge hit in the iT and Roxy clubs in Amsterdam back in the days. So simple, but so damn funky. This is how you do it, 'kids that try to reproduce that 90's vibe'.
Chocolate Puma feat. Colonel Red - Be Alright
This is a track that has been catching dust on our hard drive for ages and it features one of our favourite vocalists Colonel Red. We're not really sure what he is singing haha, but that's not important. It's just a dope house track, and that's what matters.
Ben Westbeech - Same Thing (Chocolate Puma Remix)
Strictly Rhythm asked us if we were up for producing and writing a song together with Ben Westbeech for his album. We hooked up in the studio and we instantly had a good vibe going one between the three of us. Ben wanted to do a house album and we did some dope jams together. The funny thing is that the most poppy song ended up on his album. We loved the song, so especially for our puma sets we made this remix. Rough.
Chocolate Puma & Firebeatz - Just One More Time Baby
Working with Firebeatz is so much fun. They are two young guys jumping around in the studio and throwing ideas at us. Just One More Time Baby is basically the result of the four of us fooling around and having lots of fun.
Rene & Gaston - L'Eveil (Chocolate Puma Edit)
This was the A side for Vallée De L'armes, and as many times before (and after!) the B side became the bigger hit. L'eveil didn't end up on our House Masters compilation, but we still loved the whole vibe of this 13 minute trippy tribal track, and we thought it just fitted so well with the rest of this compilation. Of course we couldn't help adding some extra beats.
Chocolate Puma - Go-Go Boots
Some people are surprised we also do stuff like this, but we tend not to stick to one style, althought we also like to call this 'House' haha. You can say this is the darker side of Chocolate Puma, or maybe this would have been a Jark Prongo release if we would still live in the '90's.
John Roman - Sala
This is the dopest track ever. It has the craziest groove you've ever heard and we've been playing this in every set for the past year since we heard Laidback Luke dropping it. It goes like “tu tu tu tu tu boom tu clap”, and it seems to divide the people in two groups, those who get confused by the rhythm, and those who go totally berserk. We salute you John Roman.
Chocolate Puma & Gregor Salto - Tragito De Ron
This is our first collaboration with our homie Gregor Salto, who's from our home town and we go way back. Working with him was a really cool experience, he is mad talented and this track sums up nicely what you would expect when you put the three of us in the studio. Hard drums and Latin vibes with balls.
Rampa feat. Meggy – Everything
It's a track we would not necessarily play in every set as it's quite laid back, but with the right timing and the right crowd the vibe on this one is just spot on. Really warm and solid production and nice vocals.
Big World feat. Markus Binapfl – Quadrillion (Moguai Remix)
Amazing remix by Moguai. Some might be surprised to see a track like this on a Defected compilation, but like we said before, if we think it's a good track we play it. Really well produced, and although you could label it 'Progressive' it stands out from all the soulless crap that's out there at the moment.
