Ex-Erasure man Vince Clarke and Depeche Mode’s Martin L Gore will release a techno album in March as new duo VCMG.

Ssss follows the release of a debut VCMG single in December, Spock, which features on the new long-player alongside nine other brand new tracks. A further single, Single Blip, is due next month with Ssss, mastered by Pole’s Stefen Betke, arriving March 12. Mute Records is to release all material.

VCMG’s new album was put together purely via emails and file exchanges between Clarke and Gore’s respective studios. “I’ve been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds… I realised I needed a collaborator… so it occurred to me to talk to Martin” Clarke declared just before Christmas.

“Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Vince just saying ‘I’m interested in making a techno album. Are you interested in collaborating?’ This was maybe a year ago” Gore reflects. “He said ‘no pressure, no deadlines’ so I said ‘OK’”.

VMCG represents the pair’s first musical partnership since 1981 when Clarke was in Depeche Mode with Gore.
