Basement Jaxx have teamed up with Dutch orchestra the Metropole Orkest and renowned London conductor Jules Buckley for a unique album project offering soaring classical interpretations of their lengthy back catalogue.
The Metropole Orkest is a full 60-piece orchestra and 20-voice choir; working alongside Buckley and Jaxx man Felix Buxton for the past year they have created classical and contemporary orchestral versions of everything from Red Alert to Raindrops via Bingo Bango, Do Your Thang, Samba Magic and a baroque harpsichord-led Where’s Your Head At?
The new album also features live outings from the collaboration’s only ever performance – in Eindhoven earlier this year – and an exclusive new piece, written by Buxton. Several long-term Jaxx vocalists are involved throughout, notably Sharlene Hector and Lisa Kekaula.
Basement Jaxx vs Metropole Orkest is released as CD and digital download July 11, prior to special concerts at London’s Barbican Theatre July 14 and 15.
