Any fan of Defected Records should also be well aware of Copyright. Born and bred in the UK, the DJ and production duo have probably clocked up more air miles than any other Defected-associated act, touring the world with their unique and inimitable sets, heavy with a blend of intricate percussion and soaring melodies.

This New Year’s Eve they haven’t got far to travel, as they play for Defected In The House at Ministry of Sound, a club in which they arguably feel more at home than any other.  Here, we present a selection of some of the finest moments from their extensive catalogue to prepare you for what will surely prove to be another winning appearance.

Copyright feat. Imaani – Wizeman
Arguably the definitive Copyright Record, ‘Wizeman’ is a perfect storm of deep, tribal percussion, soulful beats and uplifting praise vocals faultlessly delivered by frequent collaborator Imaani. Those who witnessed the entire Box at London’s Ministry of Sound singing along to this at Defected’s 10th Birthday celebrations will know the power of this record: a moment that will live long in the memory.

Copyright feat. Mr.V and Miss Patty – In Da Club (Shake Shit Up)
Heavy hitting drums and Mr V’s inimitable vocal make this one of the most impactful and unique records in Copyright’s arsenal. A permanent fixtures in their (and countless other house DJs) sets around its release, ‘In Da Club’ marked a departure from their usual style; one they pulled off with aplomb.

Copyright feat. Donae’O – My Desire
Copyright’s latest release on Defected is also one of the slickest of their career, balanced perfectly between deep and soulful house with considered elements of each given all the time they  need to make their well-considered point. Donae’O absolutely nails the vocal and a modern-day classic is born.

Michel Cleis – La Mezcla (Copyright Main Mix)
Michel Cleis’s Balearic anthem ruled the roost in Ibiza 2009, with bars, clubs, beaches and anywhere else you could think of all swaying along to that vocal. Copyright’s mix beefed up everything about the original, transforming its hypnotic , melancholy melodies into a stone-cold, main room banger. A big remix from the boys, and another career highpoint.

Copyright feat. Nuwella Love – I’m All Yours
Without prior knowledge of its origins, you’d be hard pressed to identify this as a Copyright record. Techy and frenetic with dim flashes of acid punctuating its core, ‘I’m All Yours’ is angry, seething with tension, and absolutely superb. Proof that you shouldn’t always judge an act by what they’ve done before; they may just surprise you.
