Legendary New York house DJ/producer David Morales will release a brand new single as The Face later this month.
New disco-swept lick ‘Lovin’ started out as an edit Morales would use in his DJ sets around the world. In turn he slipped a copy to Louie Vega and interest quickly built. DJ demand prompted Morales to re-do the track with 24-carat club diva Kym Mazelle – ‘Lovin’ strides on layers of strings, rolling drums and Mazelle’s soulful shout-outs to Chicago and New York; it has been heavily supported already by Vega, Tony Humphries, Mousse T and Tedd Patterson.
Morales is well aware that his first outing as The Face, 1998’s worldwide hit ‘Needin’ U’, came about in much the same manner. “It’s funny because when I first did ‘Needin’ U’ I did it for myself” he recalls. “It was never recorded to be released and when I played it out people went crazy for it. The same thing is happening with ‘Lovin’. I only hope that I have some of the success with ‘Lovin’ as I did with ‘Needin U’.” The Face’s last release was in 2006, the Nicki Richards-fronted ‘Keep It Coming’.
David Morales presents The Face feat. Kym Mazelle’s ‘Lovin’ is released via Def Mix Music on 19 January.
