The longstanding relationship between Defected and David Penn has been behind some of the best loved dancefloor gems of the last 15 years. We are now delighted to announce that David has signed an exclusive publishing deal with us on all his future releases, as well as offering us the rights to the work he has written and produced in his back catalogue, via his publishing company Zen / Urbana Records.
Earning the acclaimed titles of top selling house artist of 2019 on both Beatport and Traxsource, David continued his hot streak into 2020 with his single ‘The Power’, and a huge remix of Heller & Farley’s club classic ‘Ultra Flava’, both again, reaching #1 in the aforementioned charts. His trademark sound is distinctive without ever being formulaic, and is classic yet contemporary. Famed for his funky piano motifs, ability for working with vocalists of many different styles, driving basslines and on point percussion, he is equally adept at going deep or acidic when the moment is right. Trusted by us to remix the classics from our catalogue with complete finesse, he also joined the esteemed list of House Masters in 2020 with his debut House Masters compilation.
David will also be releasing a run of new singles with us as part of the new signing, with more to be announced in due course, including a very exciting collaboration with Ferreck Dawn and Andreya Triana.
