Eminent club DJ-producer Deetron is the latest name to front a fabric mix album.
The Swiss artist, real name Sam Geiser, has included 28 of his all-time favourite house and techno cuts. Hence vintage Chicago selections from DJ Sneak and Gemini blend with those from Detroit by E-Dancer (AKA Kevin Saunderson) and Galaxy 2 Galaxy. Elsewhere, hard-hitting 4-4 from Marcel Dettman (remixing Moderat), Redshape and Function compliments wide-ranging offerings from Afefe Iku & Osunlade (the legendarily percussive Bodydrummin), Carl Craig (his epic ‘Breakdown’ of Johnny Blas’ Picadillo), Caribou (the deliciously space-y Irene) and Atoms For Peace (dense but pop-flecked IDM outpouring Before Your Very Eyes) via Thom Yorke’s super-group). There are further contributions by Tom Trago, Seiji and Four Tet (with grime kingpin Terror Danjah).
“[I] didn’t really begin to structure the mix until all the tracks had been cleared, except for one” Geiser explains. “So as I began to throw the tracks together as spontaneously as possible, the structure of the mix began to take shape. I did a single take before I recorded the final version of the mix as it is now in order to keep it as lively and representative of a live DJ set as possible. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed myself as much working on a mix in the studio before.”

fabric 76 is released by Fabric Records on 16 June. A launch party is scheduled for 28 June with Deetron billed alongside Redshape, Will Saul, Terry Francis, Slam and, of course, Craig Richards.
