Nobody could predict the challenges the music industry has faced this year and with tour cancellations and few live events for the foreseeable future it has left artists in unexpected positions. Here we shine a light on Bandcamp, a business that has proved their dedication to always supporting artists, especially during the last few months.
Back in March, Bandcamp recognised the heavy hit to musicians globally due to the pandemic, launching Bandcamp Fridays in solidarity with the music industry. This new scheme meant once a week Bandcamp waived their share of revenue to help artists and labels. Bandcamp Fridays have continued monthly since, raising over $20 Million directly for artists and labels. It has demonstrated the power of music fans coming together, reminding us that the scheme is an extension of what Bandcamp is about every day.
Bandcamp have confirmed they will continue the scheme on the first Friday of every month until the end of the year. Support and tips for artists and fans have been provided by Bandcamp here, helping artists with maximising sales on the platform and guiding fans on the ways they can support.
