We are thrilled to announce a brand new, tri-weekly residency on BBC Radio 1 Dance.
Starting this Monday 15th July at 9pm, and continuing every three weeks, we will continue to showcase the sound that has made us a staple for house heads in the UK and around the world, with the help of our national broadcaster.
Our relationship with BBC Radio 1 and sister station Radio 1 Dance continues to grow year on year. As we celebrate 25 years of Defected, this new residency is a major success within our anniversary programme.
A spin-off show that began in 2020, BBC Radio 1 Dance was initially fronted by Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Annie Mac, all of whom supported, and continue to support, a wide array of our releases - with Sarah Story, Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah, Charlie Tee joining the array.
In 2019, a BBC Radio 1 broadcast for Pete Tong’s ‘History of House’ series saw Defected founder Simon Dunmore celebrate 20 years of Defected, with tastemaker Pete Tong remaining one of our biggest supporters to this day.
2020 saw us create a 4-part series for Radio 1 Dance Presents…, taking listeners on a journey through the sounds of Defected, DFTD, Glitterbox and Classic Music Company.
Flash forward to the start of 2024, when we hosted a 6-part series on Radio 1 Dance presents…, soon followed by Defected Records winning Radio 1 Dance Award’s Best Record Label - all thanks to our fans who voted.
Danny Howard is a key tastemaker that has consistently shown support for our brand of house, then releasing his original track ‘Mr B’ on our sister club label DFTD back in 2021. Another BBC Radio 1 name with ties to Defected, Arielle Free made her label debut last year with the gospel-house record ‘Feels So Good’ to acclaim.
In 2024 both artists continue to play at many of our world class events, from our Ushuaïa Ibiza residency to our flagship festivals in Croatia and Malta, and our ambitious B25B anniversary livestream at our Shoreditch HQ to name just a small few. We can’t wait to see what the future brings…
Defected’s BBC Radio 1 Dance Residency begins on Monday 15th July 2024 at 9pm in the UK. Shows will reoccur every three weeks on Mondays.
