After a huge season for the label in Ibiza, the Defected In The House Closing Party at Booom is fast approaching, with several of the residency’s star performers set to appear one final time on Tuesday 30 September,
Mannheim maestro Nick Curly and Desolat favourite Guti are likely to serve deeper, darker delights, whilst Noir, Oliver $ and Sam Divine will likely explore housier flavours. Having already played Booom this summer, each of Defected’s closing DJs is at the height of their White Isle powers. Musical engines finally tuned, they couldn’t be better set for the label’s blazing finale fireworks.
Glitterbox, one of two Defected parties in Ibiza this summer, may have taken a few weeks to really hit its stride, but Defected In The House hit top gear in week one, with the Opening Party quick to draw the crowds. As Essential Ibiza subsequently put it: “Defected In The House made the decision to move to Tuesday night in Booom! Ibiza...and ever since the opening party, which turned out to be a roadblock affair, it has never looked back.”
The reviews have been consistently positive elsewhere, as Defected In The House’s season has progressed. “Defected has a serious claim to Tuesday nights in Ibiza Town” Mixmag commented. “Defected and VIVa Warriors [have] proven especially dominant, showing that it’s possible to exploit San Antonio’s legions of young British holidaymakers while maintaining musical integrity” Resident Advisor later added. Over the summer, Defected In The House has varied its meaty four-to-the-floor blueprint with thrilling purpose, authoritative performers such as Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Nic Fanciulli, Dennis Ferrer, Guti, Catz ‘N Dogz, MK, Toddla T, Copyright, Deetron, Agoria and, of course, Simon Dunmore delivering everything from crisp techno to soulful New Jersey swing – all of it underpinned by driving rhythm, bass and soul.
At the same time, relative newcomers like Finnebassen, Sonny Fodera, Christoph, FCL and Shadow Child have surprised and, in turn, amazed – their fresh takes on the house sound offering scrumptious food for thought (and feet). The young guns have themselves been impressed with what they’ve seen at Booom - Defected’s unique sonic manifesto aligning confidently with the venue’s savvy relocation of DJ booth; a ‘between seasons’ project designed to help open the Booom dancefloor up. FCL’s Bart Van Neste said recently: “It’s been a really interesting, enjoyable experience. The diversity of both [Defected] nights has been great. Defected In The House has a young, clued-up house crowd and there’s always a good feeling.” Finnebassen, meanwhile, lauded Noir’s label showcase in August: “It was a really good time, perfect. Lots of friends there, good music and a good vibe.”
A Resident Advisor review of the 09 September party, featuring Cajmere, reminds us to keep an open mind for next week. “Cajmere...led with several cuts of strapping Chicago house, dishing out a barrage of tumbling basslines to the energetic young crowd. As time wore on, he moved more modern, dropping Maceo Plex’s ubiquitous remix of GusGus’ ‘Crossfade’ and the fractured pop-house of Mu’s ‘Let’s Get Sick’. The night’s highlight came not long after, as Cajmere took off his headphones, plugged them into the mic input and performed the vocals for ‘Percolator’ live.”
Anything can happen at Defected In The House in Ibiza, but one thing is guaranteed: a night of the finest house music you can find anywhere on the island. We hope you can join us to experience it for yourself.
