On Friday 29th November, Defected In The House heads to Womb, Tokyo, with label founder Simon Dunmore headlining what will surely prove to be yet another stand-out event on our global clubbing calendar.
Womb opened in the spring of 2000 with a Junior Vasquez party and has since gone from strength to strength, due to its forward-thinking music policy and meticulous attention to detail. Sven Vath and Richie Hawtin (amongst many, many others) have played at the club in the past, though Womb also has a focus on supporting new artists from Japan.
Japan is well-known for having its fair share of hi-tech nightspots, but there are arguably none that quite match the intimacy and atmosphere of Womb. Tucked away in the uber-trendy Shibuya district, there are few world-class DJs that have not graced its decks, with each seemingly more enthusiastic than the last about its credentials.
"It's a very special soundsystem there" states Dutch techno don Joris Voorn “and it's a very special atmosphere with the high ceiling, the great lighting and smoke machines, it's one of the best clubs around without a doubt."
The soundsystem is frequently lauded by DJs and clubber alike. Designed by Steve Dash, it is an undoubtedly impressive asset; warm, clear and enveloping, no matter where on the dancefloor you reside.
The nightlife of Tokyo experienced some well-documented problems. A little more than 10 years ago, there were only a couple of night spots in the city where you could dance well and enjoy yourself as all clubs focused mostly on karaoke. But now things have drastically changed, and the capital of Japan is an Asian heaven for international culture now. As the first night club established in Tokyo, Womb has always been and will surely continue to be at the very forefront of driving the clubbing culture of the city forward.
With notable upcoming appearances from Loco Dice (himself and Satoshi Otsuki), Fabric London x Womb (Craig Richards & Seth Troxler), their annual indoor festival Womb Adventure (featuring Richie Hawtin’s Enter. with Paco Osuna, Josh Wink, GAISER), a NYE event (DJ Hell) and of course the Defected In The House party, it’s fair to say that Womb will remain one of the world’s essential clubbing experiences for some time to come.
