In a world of trend-setting, following and failing, we’re sticking to our guns for Defected In The House Ibiza ’11, providing 3 CDs of timeless house music to soundtrack your summer season.
In dance music, Ibiza is undoubtedly the place where reputations are built, maintained and ultimately either stand the test of time or fade into obscurity within just a few seasons. This can be said about DJs, clubs and labels alike, and the fact is, with so much choice on the island, people – quite rightly – vote with their feet; if your dancefloor’s empty at 3am it’s probably because you’re doing something wrong.
Defected have had a summer residency on the island since 2003, and at our current home Pacha since 2005; not bad when you consider the calibre of competition, with every label and DJ vying for the handful of weekly slots available. And it is our firm belief that we have maintained this position by consistently presenting what we believe to be the very finest and purest house music on the globe; moving with the times of course, but refusing to follow flash-in-the-pan trends that burn brightly before fading to nothing when the next ‘big thing’ comes along.
Defected In The House Ibiza ’11 is what we consider to be a fresh, current yet timeless selection of house music from some of the very finest producers working today.
In a three CD selection that takes in long-established artists, bright young talents and regular Defected producers, Simon Dunmore takes us from the warm-up, though the main room and back to the afterparty with mixes that embody the perfect components of a night out in Ibiza.
As with all well-crafted mixes it is without doubt about the whole, but there are some highlights worth paying particular attention to. Human Life are veteran house music producers and musicians Joshua Collins, Matt Wasley and Rachael Starr, who between the three of them have clocked up well over 100 releases on labels such as NRK, Bedrock, Ultra, Azuli and BMI. The trio behind the CD 1 opener, 'In It Together' is a fresh and uber-relevant pop-synth-house track with a huge vocal that can be favourably compared to anthemic productions from groups such as Azari & III, MGMT and Junior Boys.
Following his album on Loco Dice’s Desolat and a slew of lauded releases for labels such as Crosstwon Rebels, Guti’s name has been on everyone’s lips of late. Teaming up here with Luca Bacchetti for one of many compilation exclusives, ‘Finale’ is a deep but ultimately uplifting cut with a haunting breakdown that is nothing short of stunning.
Further exclusives come in the shape of the Franky Rizardo remix of Michal Gray, Danism & Rae’s ‘You Will Remember’, Bit Funk’s ‘She’s Got Two Hearts (Ghosts of Venice Remix) and the brand new production from Kings of Tomorrow ‘I Need to Love Myself’, as well as a previously unreleased remix of Sandy Rivera & Haze’s ‘Put Yours Hands Up’ from JoeySuki.
