The original Detroit Electronic Music Festival will return to the Motor City on July 4, Independence Day, next year.

The festival originally occupied Memorial Day Weekend in May, as a forerunner of Movement (also confusingly still referred to as the DEMF), before Detroit promoters Paxahau took it over in 2006. The event had become financially unsound and, in turn, no further festivals took place as DEMF.

Reports are now suggesting that original DEMF founder Carol Marvin is set to re-launch the event away from Movement (based in Hart Plaza) next year as a free summer-time gathering in Campus Martius Park.  If so, the event will run at the same time as Detroit’s larger Federation Of Electronic Music Technology (FEDF) festival and is expected to feature Juan Atkins and Cybotron’s Rik Davis – though both have links to both events.

Updates are expected at http://demf.us in the coming weeks.
