This Autumn Defected’s sister label DFTD will embark on its debut tour, bringing some of its key artists to clubs across the UK and Europe.
Since its launch in June 2013 DFTD has brought out music from fresh talent as well as tracks from well-established artists and boasts an eclectic array of releases. Its focus on quality, dancefloor-focused house music compliments the catalogue of Defected and in the short time DFTD has been around it has brought out some of the biggest club tracks heard on the internationally dancefloor.
DJs on in the tour lineup include Italian duo Flashmob who are fronting the second edition of DFTD’s mix album series, due out later this month. Also on the lineup is Australian DJ and Defected star Sonny Fodera and hugely talented newcomer Cristoph. krankbrother – who found their success in their unique and hugely popular events but are rapidly becoming more recognized for their producing and DJing – are involved, while the final DFTD DJ joining the tour is Defected resident Andy Daniell who has captivated crowds at our parties across the globe.
The UK tour starts on Saturday 18 October at Junk in Southampton and will continue Friday 24 at XOYO in London. DFTD will also host a stage at Outbreak festival in Coventry 31 October and will be at Motion, Bristol 15 November. Our final stop will be at The Arches in Glasgow 06 December, while DFTD will also host room two at our ADE party at Air, Amsterdam 17 October.
Here we take a closer look at the venues that will be playing host to DFTD over the coming months.
Junk
First stop on the tour is Junk, Southampton. Recently voted ‘Best Small Club’ by DJ Mag, over the past ten years Junk has played host to 2,000 parties and over 1,000 DJs. With an impressive list of past guests such as Joy Orbison and Miguel Campbell the club is reputed across the south of England the quality of its programming. DFTD will bring Flashmob and Sonny Fodera to Southampton for what is sure to be a sell out night of quality dance music and partying in this highly acclaimed venue.
XOYO
XOYO in the heart of Shoreditch is one of the most well respected clubs in the capital when it comes to music policy. The venue has played host to some of the biggest names in dance music with its residency series this year – which featured Eats Everything, The 2 Bears and Jackmaster – being especially well-received, with East Everything previously saying he was excited to play a venue where he could “really push where we can go musically”. The street art aesthetic paired with the warehouse-style basement makes an ideal setting for the sounds of DFTD DJs Sonny Fodera and Cristoph.
Outbreak
Outbreak Festival is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing electronic music festivals in the UK, with this year’s lineup hosting huge artists across a spectrum of genres from Techno/House to Garage and Drum & Bass. On Friday 31st of October, coinciding with Halloween, Defected hosts the DFTD tent with Flashmob, Sonny Fodera, Christoph and Andy Daniell. With a long wait for the festivals of next summer in the UK Outbreak is a chance to relive the festival atmosphere. The coordinators of the festival have said “It is all about the music! Good vibes and great times”.
Motion
Our penultimate stop on the DFTD tour is Motion, Bristol where Defected in the House will host the main room and Flashmob, krankbrother and Cristoph will be representing DFTD. Set in the heart of Bristol, Motion prides itself on promoting forward thinking music in a truly unique venue: a converted skatepark within a network of warehouses with a large outdoor terrace. ‘Jack’ producer Ben Westbeech (aka Breach) described playing the season opening party last week as “pure vibes”, and the DFTD DJs will play alongside the Defected headliners of the night Duke Dumont, Secondcity, Shenoda and Sam Divine.
The Arches
Finally DFTD travels to Glasgow where the label will host room two of The Arches. First opened in 1991, these converted railway arches are used for exhibitions, gigs and club nights in the heart of Glasgow’s city center and have become an iconic venue not only in Scotland but the world over. This winter The Arches has already hosted nights with huge headliners like Carl Cox, Hot Since 82, Route 94 and Riva Starr. Joining this illustrious list, Flashmob, Cristoph and Sonny Fodera arrive in Glasgow on 06 December for what will surely be a fitting finale to the DFTD tour.
