Ahead of the release of DFTD VLM01 mixed by Cristoph, the UK DJ/producer talks us through some of his personal favourites from the upcoming mix album.
J.Cub feat Sarah Story - Give You My Love (Cristoph Remix)
This track is working really well whenever I play it out at the moment and seems to be a favourite at Defected HQ. When I heard the original I instantly wanted to do my own remix to fit into my sound and sets as I loved Sarah's vocal. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for a piano, so I ended up deciding on making quite a driving, piano led track. Hopefully people will enjoy it.
Cristoph – Guffaz
I've chosen this track simply because the track means a lot to me. Not only is it named after one of my close friends but it was also the track which really helped to start push my name out. I still get a lot of requests for it now and it always seems to go off when I drop it. I've changed the intro of this making it something you can tease in and out whilst mixing. I actually got the idea listening to a Defected teaser video for their NYE event at Ministry.
Aaaron - Feelin This
I don't know much about Aaaron apart from he's from Berlin's underground house scene and has a knack for making great tracks. This track has gained some serious support since its release and is showing no sign of stopping with Jamie Jones dropping it at Time Warp's 20th birthday. The awesome drums and quality looping vocals make this a total roller.
Sonny Fodera – Trainsurfing
I've followed Sonny for a fair few years now and his work is always of such a great standard. Trainsurfing is no different. Another one which goes off in my (and probably everyone else’s) sets. A dark track with an awesome, gritty bassline and one hell of a drop!
Andrea Olivia – Reseed
Being brought up listening to all sorts of house music back in the 90's as soon as I heard 'Reseed' I knew I’d be putting it on this compilation. Guaranteed to make the dancefloor, move you can hear the 90's influences throughout this track.
Michel De Hey & Mulder – Seven
Where do I begin on this one?? An eight minute journey which just doesn't stop; I couldn't leave it off this compilation. Completely love everything about this track and as soon as I heard it I begged Andy Daniell for a copy. Think this one will stay in my box for a long time. Total jam.
Guti - Hope (Cristoph Remix)
The original is one of my favourite tracks of last summer, DFTD's first release and biggest seller to date so to be giving the chance to put my own touches to it and for Guti himself to call the remix 'hot' was all a massive honour for me. Fingers crossed people will like it.
NiCe7 - Time To Get Physical (Tube & Berger Remix)
I first heard this record watching Tube & Berger in Manchester and instantly asked their manager Sam who's remix it was. The crowd's reaction was immense and I believe this one could be a real biggie for the guys and genuinely hope it is. Was over the moon when Andy sorted it to be exclusive to the compilation.
Man Without A Clue - When I Play This Record
Another producer I knew very little about until recently. He's been sending me over a few tracks and every one of them is brilliant. The vocal in this track is so infectious and that alongside such a cool melody makes this track a big hit. Gaining support from the legendary Kenny Dope is always going to make the record a winner.
Cristoph - Right Now
With this EP I tried to show a different side to my productions. When I originally wrote the melody I had a different idea in mind but after messing around with a few different basslines I felt the track was sounding better as more of a groover. I'm well pleased with the feedback and support it has received.
