Tribe are back with a special Tribute party on Saturday 16th October, paying homage to Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Nigeria's eminent musical activist and arguably the most influential artist to emerge from Africa this century.
Fela Kuti pioneered the popular Afro beat sound in the 1970’s, a combination of traditional Yoruba music, jazz, funk and chanted vocals, fused with percussion and vocal styles, and used it to revolutionise musical structure as well as the political context in his native Nigeria.
They will also be flying in Tribe regular Ian Friday, direct from New York. a regular guest to Tribe as our special guest on the night. Ian has organised Fela Kuti tributes in the past in conjunction with his popular Libation party and will bring his own unique flavour to the event.
The new venue for the party is Drop East, formerly afterhours hang out '54' which has been recently refurbished.
