Chicago house veteran Gene Hunt – no, not the fictional, loud-mouthed TV detective – has teamed up with label Rush Hour to present a series of exclusive Chi-Town dance cuts from his own personal collection.
Hunt built a huge reputation in house’s earliest mid-80s days, regularly playing parties alongside fellow legend Ron Hardy. He also built a massive collection of reel-to-reel demos, sent to him and Hardy by up-and-coming producers keen to impress and gain clubland exposure. It is from these dusty tapes that Hunt has extracted previously unreleased retro-house gems by the likes of Lil Louis, Larry Heard, Marshall Jefferson, Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and Mike Dunn.
Chicago Dance Tracks, available on single-disc CD and vinyl, is due for release May 2 (vinyl) and May 16 (CD). It follows Rush Hour house compilations for classic Virgo, Recloose and Trax material.
