You should be familiar with the sparkling progress of Defected’s latest Ibiza residency Glitterbox by now.  The Saturday night Booom extravaganza made its grand (and tastefully glam) debut back in early June but it still, thankfully, has some way to go before winding down its first Balearic summer.

Glitterbox is due to run until 27 September, meaning there’s plenty more feel-good fun yet to come.  And that fun is the result of Defected’s shrewd step back from the day-to-day dancefloor, in order to capture a bigger dance music moment and deliver it back to revellers with big, glittery bells on.  A Glitterbox party is without boundary or sonic restriction, its hand-picked DJ line-up encouraged to create from vintage house and disco and, in doing so, create a wholly unique, totally unforgettable dance vibe.

We’ve already spoken here of talismanic Glitterbox residents Dimitri From Paris, Joey Negro and Late Nite Tuff Guy, not to mention special guests David Morales, Arthur Baker, Mousse T and DJ Pippi.  But there’s more, much more.  Let us serve you a tasty snapshot of Glitterbox’s remaining line-up for the summer.

Quentin Harris
This fine Big Apple-based artist first made his name as a DJ at revered New York club The Shelter, famed for his incredible technical mixing skills as much as his incisive, deeply soulful record choices.  It was the Nineties, Harris also playing super-venues Ministry Of Sound, Cielo and Stereo.  His production debut in 2002 (with Tyrone Francis, Sincere/Too Hott 2002) picked up significant pace just 12 months later when a remix of Donnie’s 'Cloud 9' exploded.  Several underground hits have followed since, not least 'Let’s Be Young' (2005), 'Can’t Stop' (2008) and 'Do The Right Thing' (2010), as well as acclaimed album No Politics (2006).  The album title remains apt, Harris’ musical focus as powerful as ever.

Todd Terry
That his nickname is ‘The God’ should tell you everything.  Terry is one of house music’s original legends, the still innovative cut ‘n’ thrust of his DJ sets honed in the 1980s when he first started playing block parties in New York and swaggeringly splicing hip-hop, house and disco.  Terry’s discography is as lengthy as it is culturally essential, an unstoppable sweep of productions (Weekend, Keep On Jumpin) and remixes (Everything But The Girl, The Jungle Brothers) moving freely between under and over-ground without compromise.  Todd ‘The God’ continues to shake things up in 2014.

Nightmares On Wax
Leeds DJ-‘composer’ George Evelyn was one of the first artists, as Nightmares On Wax, to release on ground-breaking electronic label Warp – a clear sign of his prodigious talent and future, revelatory career.  Boom-bap beginnings in a local breakdance crew have led to wonderfully varied work as both DJ and producer, Evelyn’s global career taking in everything from edgy hip-hop to lush soul via shape-shifting house and techno.  Nightmares On Wax’s celestial chill-out track 'Les Nuits' (1999) has become something of an Ibizan national anthem – a spine-tingling encapsulation of Ibiza’s magical, otherworldly night-time vibe.

Claudio Coccoluto
One of Italy’s most fiercely supported DJs, Coccoluto has earned his loyal following on the strength of bold, passionate sets mixing old-school US house and techno with contemporary Euro dance, World music and indescribable future-groove – this over decades.  Cocco is no slouch in the studio either, last year’s collaboration with son Gianmaria, Lion & Ram, following infectious Nineties highlights such as The Heartists’ 'Belo Horizonti' (co-produced by Basement Jaxx).  But it is the DJing that shouts loudest, and Coccoluto’s vast ‘in booth’ experience will ensure an unforgettable, befittingly chic adventure at Booom this August.

DJ Antz
Antz, AKA English ‘gent’ Anthony Bryans, is authentically Ibiza and one of the island’s unsung heroes.  Danny Rampling introduced him to the game-changing, open-air sets of DJ Alfredo at Amnesia in 1987 and subsequently served him his big DJ break at legendary London club Shoom.  Antz soon returned to Ibiza, one of the few behind a series of sunrise car park parties outside Space that would pre-empt the venue’s iconic Terrace.  Gigs all over the island have regularly followed since, cementing his status as a highly emotive, highly eclectic showman able, truly, to wield Ibiza’s past, present and future with devastating dancefloor results.

The Shapeshifters
Simon Marlin and Max Reich’s Anglo-Swedish pact has enthralled clubland these past 11 years. The Shapeshifters began, spectacularly, with international crossover hit 'Lola’s Theme' – an amalgam of the soulful, uptempo grooves they love – before releasing heavyweight follow-ups like 'Back To Basics' and 'Chime', not to mention remixes of Candi Staton and collaborations with Frankie Knuckles. The Shapeshifters’ studio prowess is entirely fuelled, they say, by crowd reactions to their gigs. Motoring on lively BPMs and a refreshing mix of soulful dance influences, those gigs inevitably drive dancefloors wild.

Hector Romero
Romero is the DJ’s DJ; an incredible veteran performer whose love of dance music was first fuelled by teenage gigs at legendary New York clubs La Mirage, The Roxy and The Red Zone – the latter where he met and subsequently opened for David Morales. That love has deepened again and again, regular tours of Italy, Spain and Japan complimenting accomplished studio work alongside his Def Mix cohorts Morales and Satoshi Tomiie. A class act.

Mo'funk
Australian dynamo Mo'funk has made Ibiza something of his playground in recent years, his scintillating sets of funk, house and disco earning him rave reviews everywhere from Pacha to Space (at both We Love… and Carl Cox’s ‘Revolution’ night). Last year he utterly charmed Defected’s weekly throw-down at Ushuaia and now in 2014 is back with the label, intent on delivering glorious mirrorball memories for Glitterbox at Booom The funk is most definitely with him….

Mr Doris
Another breathtakingly diverse Glitterbox guest, Mr Doris is surfing Ibiza’s new wave of musical expansion. A White Isle mainstay (previous residencies including Space, Pacha, Km5 and The Rock Bar) his sound is a colossal melting pot of soulful, highly creative ideas. Revellers can expect house and disco next to electro, reggae, dubstep, drum & bass and even jazz – the kind of magical smorgasbord advancing Ibiza away from its long-held association with predictable corporate dance and, conversely, taking it back to its most wholesome, varied roots.

Shovell
From plumber to master percussionist, Shovell’s late Eighties experiences at Shoom switched him onto music as a career and, in turn, a prominent spot within chart-breaking dance act M People. Whilst many will remember him best for his time in the group, Shovell has achieved so much more in recent years. Punchy collaborations with Copyright, residencies for Pacha (Defected’s previous residency there) and Nightmares On Wax’s renowned soundsystem, and several tours around the world with major DJs have further honed his rhythmic and reputational powers. Shovell promises to bring Glitterbox even more vividly to life, ably supporting its sizzling summer line-up of DJs with a mesmeric array of live beats.
