It’s been some three decades since house music was born in the underground clubs of Chicago and New York, before making its way across the Atlantic to the shores of the UK and Ibiza. In that time the scene has mutated almost out of recognition; and while house music is still the dominant musical force on the White Isle, something of its original party spirit has been lost along the way.
Glitterbox aims to redress this balance.
Taking place at Booom Ibiza every Saturday throughout the season, Glitterbox’s aim is simple: to throw a truly great party that ignores trends, fads and niche appeal in favour of focussing on the most important ingredient there is – the music – and that of course starts with the guys behind the decks.
Glitterbox is a heady mix of the scene’s most illustrious talent: with DJs respected for their ability to perform as much as to produce – Kenny Dope, Joey Negro, Dimitri From Paris, Todd Terry and David Morales to FCL, Lovebirds, Horse Meat Disco and Late Night Tuff Guy; add headline live performances from those who truly entertain, Hercules & Love Affair to Barbara Tucker and alongside Balearic originals such as X-Press 2, DJ Pippi and DJ Antz and you have the perfect ingredients for a classic Saturday night out.
There’s been growing concern from some quarters lately that the current scene is dominated by producers rather than authentic DJ talent. Formulaic sets abound, with some lacking either the courage or skill to genuinely read a crowd or work a dancefloor.
At Glitterbox, however, you’ll find truly talented DJs, unafraid to play the big records or dig a little deeper - taking the occasional risk either way to provide an unpredictable, memorable and unique party soundtrack.
