Defected’s ‘Bodymusic’ unites with one of the most innovative fitness brands in the world; Gymbox.

The Gymbox presents Bodymusic concept has been designed to fill a gap in the fitness music market – targeting discerning fitness enthusiasts that want to listen to quality, credible dance music while they work out - rather than the overtly commercial products on offer.

Launching with BODYMUSIC Presents GYMBOX – Workout 1 (released 23rd July) each volume of the digital DJ mix compilation will feature three mixes designed in consultation with professional Gymbox trainers and mixed by Defected’s own Sam Divine. They will include 1 X 60 minute ‘Cardio’ mix, 1 X 60 minute ‘Conditioning’ mix and a 10 minute Warm Up/Cool Down mix plus the single tracks used in the mix.

Music is widely reported and proven to enhance a workout and, according to Dr Costas Karageorghis, an expert on the effects of music on exercise, at Brunel University, “listening to music while running can boost performance by up to 15%”, as published in his latest book, Inside Sport Psychology.

The speed of the mixes has been carefully and scientifically considered with each section at a specific BPM to help enhance performance whatever the activity.  This varied range in intensity and energy across the compilation will also ensure it appeals to the broadest possible market as it can be used for a cross section of workouts such as running, cycling, dance and weights.

GYMBOX fitness trainer, Pierre Pozzuto, states… “The goal-specific Cardio mix is at a 138 BPM tempo and the Conditioning mix is at 128 BPM - each designed to accompany your individual workout. When music is used as a 'pace maker', a constant that is always followed in my class, all other variables can then be more accurate. I use music on the single, double or 'freestyle count’. It’s one major way to change intensity. Using the beat helps everyone feel part of the music and part of a team in class. So if the resistance is fixed (say to effort level 7 out of 10) then intensity can be controlled simply by using the single, double or freestyle pace...”

The Gymbox series, like everything this pioneering gym chain does, is set to challenge fitness music; a marketplace, which is currently saturated with generic products, featuring hit-driven commercial dance, with no true fitness credentials or heritage.
