Ahead of his official induction into the House Masters hall of fame, Iberican house legend DJ Chus gives us the lowdown on some of the tracks that feature on the compilation.
Defected Presents House Masters - DJ Chus by Defected Records
Kevin Saunderson featuring Inner City 'Future' (DJ Chus In Stereo Mix)
The first time I heard this song I knew that it was a track that would make history. The epic moment for me came in ADE last year when I saw the live performance that Kevin and Inner city did at Club Air, Defected's party! You can't imagine my happiness when Simon asked me to remix…it was a very important challenge for me and I put all my energy doing it.
Franky Rizardo 'Caracoles' (DJ Chus Iberican Mix)
Caracoles! Wow! The first time I heard this track I said, “I want to remix it!” I sent an email to Franky asking for the stems, and ready, steady, done! It's one of those tracks that everybody recognizes in my DJ sets! Pure Iberican flava!!
Reboot 'Enjoy Music' (DJ Chus 2012 Re-Edit)
Enjoy Music is one of my favorites, I've always played it in my sets and people go nuts, it’s one of those records that puts everyone on the dance floor in the right mood! The Original Mix is a classic!
Raul Rincon presents Negropolis Children 'Lumumba' (DJ Chus Muchodrums Mix)
I'm a big fan of Raul for years, I love his style, I've liked this track since day one, but unfortunately I couldn't play it cause it was quiet 'soft' for me. So I asked Raul for the stems and I made my own version, just for my sets. But after I uploaded it into my Soundcloud, people started to ask me about it so that's why I decided to formalize it by including it in the House Masters as an exclusive!
Ralphi Rosario featuring Xaveria Gold 'You Used to Hold Me' (DJ Chus & David Penn 2012 Mix)
The original is one of my favourite classics tracks ever. I had made some mash-ups before but last year I wrote to Ralphi asking for the original stems to make an official remix. I wanted to give it a special treatment with real musical arrangements and there’s no-one better than my friend David Penn for this. We had the main idea in just one day, but we took over 6 months to have the final version in our hands, we wanted to do it perfect!
DJ Chus & David Penn featuring Cevin Fisher and Sheilah Cuffy 'Libres Para Siempre' (Original Mix)
The idea of making a new Spanish song has been going round and round in my head for years. I had a clear idea about the message and the hook, to talk about the freedom in these difficult times. We tried with different female singers before finally Sheilah Cuffy come up but we knew that we needed something more and that's when I spoke with my friend Cevin, he always has the right words and when I suggested to him he immediately responded. It was fantastic and I liked the idea of using English and Spanish, male and female vocals on the same track. It's a clear example of 'Libertad'.
Glamsta featuring Candela 'In De Guetto 2012' (DJ Chus Club Mix)
This is one of those tracks that influenced me in my early days as a DJ, my first import record purchases, my early house sets in Portugal, wow! What a good times! So I wanted to do something different but keeping the magic that the original has. Morales has always been an inspiration for all house lovers.
Copyright featuring Imaani 'Story Of My Life' (DJ Chus & David Penn Remix)
A great song could not earn less than a great remix, so hopefully David and I put the icing on the cake!! This is for sure one of our best remixes of last year.
DJ Chus & Rob Mirage 'Back 2 NY' (Original Stereo Mix)
I did this track along with my friend rob mirage and it had a special meaning. I feel New York is my second home and this is my personal tribute to a city that gave me so many good things! As Defected said when they released it, it is a future classic!
DJ Chus presents The Groove Foundation 'That Feeling' (De Poniente Mix) (Remastered)
This record was so huge in Spain, a real anthem! I became popular after that; someone even told me after I played at the end of my set in Pacha Ibiza many years ago that they would never forget me because they made love for the first time to this song. So… beautiful history!
DJ Chus & Joeski 'El Amor' (Original Mix) (Remastered)
This track has been my gems for many years, my precious!!!, Joeski and I had a really good time recording it in my first 'small' studio in Madrid, we invited real musician to play the bassline and percussion and a friend of ours recorded the vocals. She was not even a professional singer just a friend but we loved her voice. After many years I’ve never dared to remix it because I think that I would not be able to improve the original mix, so I could only re-master it for this album. Enjoy!
Intruder (A Murk Production) featuring Jei 'Amame' (DJ Chus Re-Groove Edit)
I like to customize tracks, to make my private edits and add some drums to be able to play them in my sets. This is a clear example; the original is a masterwork but for me it needs some extra groove so I just re-edited it… that's it!
DJ Chus & Patrick M 'Estela' (DJ Chus In Stereo Dub Mix)
Estela is the given name of my daughter and I wrote this song for her using some piano notes that she played herself on my studio keyboard. I also released it the same day she turned 10, it was my birthday present to her!
DJ Chus & Supernova 'Carnavalesco' (Original In Stereo Mix)
This is one of the first collaborations with my friends Emi and Godi aka Supernova. They're wicked people and very talented, I think that with this track we seamlessly merge their musical touch and my Iberican groove flava! I'm still playing it and it works as well as did the first day. Awesome!
DJ Chus 'Voices Of Savannah' (Original Mix) (Remastered)
This track was the first one that I made by myself, in my own way with my percussive Latin and tribalistic style, it was a clear premonition signal about the things that came later, the tribal house and the Iberican sound!
DJ Chus & David Penn featuring Daren J. Bell 'Sunshine' (Montejano's Guitar Mix) (Remastered)
Only a few people know this version of Sunshine, it’s the one that we completely remade with a Spanish guitar played by our big flamenco friend, Angel Montejano. Nowadays it still gives me goosebumps, same as the first day.
