Seasoned Brit house DJ-producer Danny Howells has mixed Balance 024, the next instalment of the legendary compilation series.
Howell’s two-disc extravaganza is decidedly deep, the opening disc including Jamie XX’s remix of Four Tet’s Lion, Will Saul & October’s take on Michael Mayer’s Mantasy and contributions by The Mole (two), Jimpster and Ian Pooley, whilst the second collection serves up even more eclectic atmosphere via Shur-I-Kan, Daze Maxim, Prins Thomas and Ewan Pearson.
“I had a brief discussion with Balance a few years back so knew (hoped!) that a release was possibly still on the cards” he says. “Since then I was always semi-consciously thinking about the tracks I was buying and playing that I thought would be suited to an album. I’m talking about tracks that don’t really age, and that mainly have some kind of soulful edge, with gorgeous, subtle melodies.... When the album idea was confirmed earlier this year it just boiled down to me filtering all those tracks I’d hoarded, making sure I focused on the ones that still did something to me, even after God knows how many listens.”
Howells is no stranger to high-profile mix album brands, having previously helmed for Renaissance and Global Underground. Australian imprint Balance Music releases Balance 024: Danny Howells on November 25.
