Last Saturday Dennis Ferrer, Solomun, Simon Dunmore and Tuccillo manned the decks at Pacha, Ibiza with thousands of happy clubbers bearing witness to one of the parties of the 2012 Ibiza seasons so far.

On the surface, a party like that may look as if like it comes together pretty easily, but behind the scenes there are usually more than a couple of people working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly.

This week Jelena gives us a minute by minute rundown of what goes on in the 24-hour life on an Ibiza Manager. Take a deep breath…

Saturday, 21st July 2012

09:00 Early morning alarm! I really need to change the sound of that space drill on my Blackberry making the wakeup call too stressful. Apparently, the sound of the morning alarm should be something nice to ease us into the day, but so far I haven’t found an adequate noise to get me out of bed – space drill it is!

09:30
A stroll down to the bar Flotante on the Talamanca beach for the last moments of sanity for the weekend. Tomato and olive oil toast with an XL café latte and the most spectacular view from the shade.

10:00
Back in the office catching up on e-mail and updating the guestlist for the day. An inquiry comes for Guti +6. Now, I know only two Gutis that would dare to send their GL inquiries with only their nickname; the ex-Real Madrid football player is one of them, the Desolat beat-dropping, Loco Dice schmoozing is the other. I have a feeling it will be the latter tonight…

12:00
At Pacha checking on the production for the night. Dennis Ferrer’s Tour Manager Andre texts me to cancel the scheduled sound check so this should be an easy one. All is in order in the DJ booth; five CDJ 2000s, one 900 Nexus for Dennis and an Allen & Heath for Solomun. The decoration is going up nicely, all the lights are in sync and the sign at the front door is perfect.

14:30
Time to give my Astra the final polish for the day – I love to see the sparkle on its perfect black surface.

15:30
Quick lunch at my laptop as more and more guest list inquiries come in for the night. Quick call to the Mam-bros (the Mambo brothers loooove to call themselves that) to make sure everything is in order for the pre party. Simon Dunmore’s family is on the island and it’s going to be a big one!

19:00
In my car on the way to the San Antonio bay where we’re holding our weekly pre-party at Mambo. All of the tables are already full for the sunset dinner as I meet our promo team and hand them the giveaways for the night. I am happy to find Alex Wolfenden on the decks as he’ll get the place right where we want it by the time Simon Dunmore rocks up.

21:00
It is now about 15 minutes before the sunset and the place is packed. Simon Dunmore arrives with his family and gets into the DJ booth – he’s decided to do a two hour set!

22:00
Mambo Hierbas bottle number four is being opened as the party is absolutely rocking. The space in front and behind the DJ booth is jam-packed I manage to talk Dunmore’s children to getting into the booth.

22:15
More guest list inquiries are coming into my mobile phone. I am freaking out – we’ve never had such a big guest list on the night. Hope it’s a good sign…

22:30
Standing ovations as Dunmore’s mother in law is making an appearance in the booth and Mambo Hierbas bottle number six is being poured into the shot glasses.

23:15
Burn Studios 18 year old DJ competition winner is now taking over in the booth and I’m starting to get nervous – we need to make our way towards Pacha. Dinner has been reserved for midnight and Tuccillo is opening for us at the same time.

00:10
Dennis Ferrer hands me his guest list over dinner. I find the last names on the list to be – Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Ironman and Green Lantern. I tell Dennis the Green Lantern is already in the club and he laughs while trying to decide between the Funky Maki and the Soft Shelled Crab Tempura.

01:15
Simon Dunmore is late to begin his set to Tuccillo’s absolute joy. Tuccillo is asking me if I can make Dunmore be late for another hour…not gonna happen!

01:20
Dunmore takes over to a packed dance floor. The VIP is filling up nicely as well…

01:45
Dennis Ferrer and Solomun (!!!) are already in the club to my big surprise. Solomun’s set time is not until 5am and this is not something you see every day as the DJs normally show up at the club half an hour (at best) before they’re supposed to begin. It’s his first time at Pacha and he’s eager to see the club and listen to Dunmore and Dennis!

02:15
The VIP security are giving Dennis Ferrer the weird eye as he’s wearing shorts. Pacha has a very strict policy on long trousers in the VIP and this is the second time we’re breaking this rule this season. MK was the first one to suffer the looks some weeks back.

02:30
Solomun asks if he can have his champagne bottle. I advise him against doing this as there are too many DJ booth scroungers (myself included) around. I tell him to wait for his set time and try to score him a glass of bubbly he can hold onto.

03:00
Dennis is on the decks now and the place is going off!

03:30
Defected’s own A&R Andy Daniell can’t stop laughing at the sight of Solomun with his baby champagne bottle (baby ice bucket included).

04:10
Guti is in the club!!! Making our way from the garden into the DJ booth to get him a drink, I am happy it wasn’t the football player...

04:30
Stress time!!! Solomun’s tech rider was wrong… He doesn’t need the Allen & Heath but wants the 3 CDJ’s linked into the Nexus. Would have been okay as it was the same set up Dennis needed, but we had to take one of the CDJs away to make place for his laptop. As I run to get the Head Techie, I sigh of with relief that there’s enough time to get this done…

05:00
Solomun takes the decks to an absolute euphoria on the dance floor. I can make out the faces of our PRs and the Mambo workers having the time of their life.

05:30
I can’t believe how receptive the crowd is – tune after tune…

06:00
Andy Daniell suggests dropping the DJ booth (which is on hydraulics) down to the crowd level. The crowd goes mental!!! Everyone is taking out their cameras out and is trying to high five Solomun.

06:45
Solomun gives out a champagne glass to a thirsty girl – what a cool bloke!! Too bad there’s not enough left for the hundreds that are still on the floor.

07:04
It is now four minutes past Pacha curfew and this is happening…

07:30
Cables disconnected, party over, achy feet, ready for bed but the Pacha driver is nowhere to be found. Since my mobile’s battery is dead I decide to take Solomun to his hotel.

07:40
As we’re making our way towards Ibiza Town, Solomun asks if we could go and get some breakfast. Hurray – I love to end a night at Croissant Show in the Port.

08:00
Food ordered and coffee steaming as a very feminine red haired tranny strolls past us on the way to who knows where. Only in Ibiza…

08:45
We’re throwing high fives as the three of us at the table (Solomun, a mate of mine and yours truly) realize we were born days apart in December of 1975!!! December babies!!!

08:46
Euphoria is gone as the check arrives – €32 for three tiny brekkies? What did we break???

09:05
I drop my mate off, say good night to Solomun and make my way to my house for a deserved day of sleep thinking it will be really cool to have this guy back with us three more times this season!!!

Till next week,
Jelena X
