Our resident wordsmith for the White Isle, Rose Hancock, fills us in on all the latest news, adventures and rampages from Ibiza.
To kick off this week’s blog it’s time to fill you in on the latest starbiz scandals of Ibiza. Don't you worry, I fully understand that it's your god given right to be informed...
Close to Defected's Ibiza home Booom is the impressive restaurant/bar and celeb hang out Ciprianis. It was here on Tuesday that Orlando Bloom threw a punch at Justin Bieber as Bieber walked past. It is thought this was due to the 20 year old 'bad boy' going on a date with Orlando's wife Miranda Kerr back in 2012. Not that I stopped to ask the guys what the punch was all about… I was too busy getting my swag on with my homies (sorry, enough of the Bieber wannabe gangster talk).
We were headed for Defected to see MK, Secondcity, Pleasurekraft and Sam Divine, what a line up! MK has made several road-block appearances so far this summer at Ibiza's Defected, his influential 'Always' tune is sure to be one of the pivotal sounds this summer. It was yet another full house at Defected this week, with A-List fans like Naomi Campbell, P Diddy, Leonardo DiCaprio, and 'best friends' Orlando Bloom and Justin Bieber all getting Defected.
Twice in one week I've been rubbing shoulders with these notorious celebs (they're clearly following me around Ibiza…). It was Saturday at 7am; nothing was stopping me dancing to the sounds of techno pioneer Joseph Capriati at this week’s Music On. Amnesia's Terrace was flooded with sun rays, the infamous cooling 'ice cannons' were in full swing, and Italian Capriati was playing my current favourite tune: Patrick Topping's ‘Forget’.
At this moment I looked into the DJ booth area to see P Diddy and Leonardo Dicaprio in their techno element! The spacious and oh so inviting Amnesia DJ booth is a place I have failed, on plenty of occasions, to shimmy past the no-nonsense security and dance within. My pride and dignity are distant memories. This Music On was pretty special as we were lucky to experience Marc Antona's show that night and last ever gig. And I got to experience my first Amnesia hot dog (8 euros, can be purchased in the smoking area, would never recommend).
As I walked out of Amnesia's doors, I refused the tempting offers of after party invites. The party options in Ibiza never fail to impress: at 9am we had the choice of an after party at one of our favourite villa hang outs; a secret Music On beach party; an official Music On garden cave party at the infamous Cova Santa. Instead, I slept by the pool all day: I'm determined for this teeny tan of mine not to fade.
Later that night it became clear why I had resisted all other fiesta options earlier that morning. It was now Saturday night and I was dancing to timeless tracks at this week's Glitterbox. Hercules & Love Affair's live set was something special, modern masterpieces like 'Do You Feel The Same?' ignited the sparkling dance floor. This coming Saturday Joey Negro, Barbara Tucker and Crazy P will be headlining at Glitterbox, it's evident this party has firmly marked its party territory on this island.
I'm writing this blog during my first stint of babysitting here in Ibiza. Maybe it was beginner’s luck but I've definitely landed on my babysitting feet… it's not every evening you get Sky TV, a never ending supply of Oreo's, and a sea view marina penthouse to chill in! I was told by the friendly dad that I could help myself to the kitchen treats. I thought I was in luck when the kid proudly told me she had already brushed her teeth so she wouldn't be eating the Oreo cookie goodness. But now I sit here demolishing all the Oreos. I'm dreading the dad's return when he sees me in a food coma with black cookie crumbs all over his white leather sofa.
I was offered to look after a lovely six year old here whilst her dad went out for the night to DC10 for Jamie Jones' Wednesday Paradise party. This week Steve Lawler, Joy Orbison and George Fitzgerald joined the residents Jamie Jones and Richy Ahmed. Looking back at my childhood, I wish that the reason I was looked after by baby sitters was because my parents had to go out to hear the least deep house sets. In reality, the reason for my child hood babysitting was that my parents were at bridge and poker parties to the earlier hours of the morning. Oh well, not everyone can have 'hip' parents (and not everybody should use the painfully desperate-to-be-with-it word 'hip').
I love that Ibiza parents still go out to clubs whilst the kids sleep at home blissfully unaware of their parents debauched behaviours, it really does show that age isn't a prejudice here in Ibiza. There's even parent and kids club nights at Amnesia! Whether you have a VIP table and a private driver outside, or you're at the club on a workers discount wristband and have sneaked in some vodka into the club, everyone's under the same roof appreciating the same tunes, whatever the age or bank balance.
