Our resident wordsmith for the White Isle, Rose Hancock, fills us in on all the latest news, adventures and rampages from Ibiza.
It's been somewhat difficult for me to write my blog this week as I've had to turn off all social media in order to not explode with jealousy. Friends, house mates and colleagues are choking my news feeds with photos from Wednesday's Boiler Room; a Jamie Jones Villa Take Over. Yes I'm very happy for you, my friends, that this was the best party you've ever been to!
This villa party was an intimate affair with the big wigs Jamie Jones and Martinez Brothers, alongside fresh faces waFF and Kate Simko. My jealousy will subside soon and I'll have the courage to watch the recording on Boiler Room TV. I'm keen to watch Kate Simko's opening live performance with strings and a harp. I’ve been a big fan of Chicago-based Simko ever since I heard Robert James play her production 'Your Love' (remixed by Kerri Chandler and Tevo Howard) at this year's Circo Loco DC10 opening. This tune has been on repeat ever since.
Last Sunday I headed to We Love.. at Space for one of the highlights so far this season. It was Loco Dice's birthday, and his only 2014 gig on the island! Loco Dice used to be DC-10 resident from 2002-2006, so this German DJ/producer is a true veteran of the island, sorely missed this summer, and rightfully so. Dice is capable of truly captivating his crowd, and at Space's packed Terrace last Sunday he undoubtedly cast a spell on the room.
Dice played not once but twice for us at We Love; my favourite set had to be his first at 10.30pm on the much loved Sunset Terrace after Carl Cox and Loco Dice's back to back set. House head enthusiasts then meandered onto the main room for Robert Dietz. We were in for a treat as the party continued the next day at Destino for the main man Loco Dice's after party; 3 sets from Dice in 24 hours for his birthday bash - aren't we spoiled! Destino sure bought back memories of last year's Dice residency at Ushuaia Beach Hotel with the techno fuelled day time Used & Abused fiesta. Feliz cumpleaños Loco Dice!
I've still got a smile on my face from this week’s Defected party at Booom. I got to see the incredible Masters At Work play some serious old school anthems. Great fun on the dancefloor and even more fun as I continued to sing the MAW lyrics repeatedly over the past few days: "I want you to take your broom and sweep my yard." My random bursts of Masters At Work 'singing' is much to the annoyance of anyone near my proximity.
I’m hoping there will be similar amounts of Defected-related fun next week with Noir, Finnebassen krankbrother and Sam Divine, while at this Saturday's Glitterbox, Hercules & Love Affair will play live, alongside Horse Meat Disco and Todd Terry. If the recent Glitterbox album is anything to go by (my new favourite mix CD) we will be guaranteed to lose ourselves on the disco dance floor.
I'm feeling rather satisfied after a day out with the whole gang at one of our favourite beaches, Cala Compte. It was a great excuse to cruise the island on my friend's new hippy van, a hand painted floral graffiti gem! Cala Compte is the perfect place to watch the sunset, the Sunset Ashram bar and restaurant serves some of the best juices, cocktails and fresh sushi on the island.
We know the perfect beach spot away from the crowds, but with this luxury of a quiet beach spot comes a small cost: we are faced with genitals of all shapes and sizes as we share this spot with nudists. Us English and Aussie girls and boys are shamefully prudish: we need to get used to the naked Spanish surroundings. However, when there's a beautiful woman in front of us at sea, wobbling on a surfboard with her legs spread open, we couldn't help but crack a smile as she practised the Downward Dog.
