Our resident wordsmith for the White Isle, Rose Hancock, fills us in on all the latest news, adventures and rampages from Ibiza.
For me, this week has mainly revolved around food and me piling on the pounds. This stems down to a short stint back to UK to visit the parents. It felt like when I return home to the family for Christmas: a lot of time spent on the sofa and being cooked for by the mother. As I was eating my third portion of homemade apple crumble and watching Come Dine With Me on the telly, I had to remind myself that it is in fact August and not Boxing Day, I was returning to Ibiza in a few days’ time and would be on the beach baring the bulge in my bikini.
On return to the UK, after living it up in Ibiza the past 4 months, I was really looking forward to a nice cold pub pint and home comforts. However, as soon as I was back in Britain, I couldn't wait to jump back on a plane for my return to Ibiza! It was a conscious awakening that I must make the most of every day on this island, and aim to be the last one standing at this year's final closing parties.
Stepping foot back on the island I wandered down to Burger King for my first ever double Whopper on the island. Inside gossip: workers get half price on these meaty delights. My friends and I were seriously impressed by how good the Burger King was compared to the ones back home. In typical Ibiza style, new friends were made over a burger and before we'd even finished our meal deal we were invited on a yacht with a raucous group of boys on a stag do. Watching one of them dribble as he was passed out over his burger, we politely declined.
You really are spoilt for choice for things to do in Ibiza. The endless options of beach parties, villa parties, unreal club nights and whatever else the island throws at you should never be taken for granted. When it comes to weighing up my options for a night out in London or an escapade in Ibiza it just doesn't even compare. I really had to bite my tongue in front of my London friends when they got excited that one of their favourite DJ duos krankbrother were playing in London this weekend for carnival. Don't get me wrong, the parties these guys throw in London are of consistently high quality at unique, undiscovered locations with a dedicated following. But nothing beats the feeling of being on the dance floor in Ibiza, surrounded by positive people and your new family of worker friends.
Case in point: this week’s Defected party, with krankbrother, Noir, Sam Divine and an all-time favourite of mine Finnebassen. Ahead of the party and continuing my food themed week, I caught up with Danny and Kieran – the Krankbrother kings – who are responsible not just for some fantastic fiestas but also some delicious dinners. It was great to hear how their London restaurant Beagle is getting on, now a year and a half old, and compare how we rated Seth Troxler's pulled pork buns.
If there's one person who people complain about with almost clockwork regularity on the island, it has to be Paris Hilton. I haven't had the 'pleasure' of going to her foam parties for her Wednesday residency at Amnesia. But from what I've heard, Paris usually ends up covered in foam too drunk to press buttons as she attempts to play EDM. Following the Twitter complaints Paris gets from other DJs on the island, the music industry's moans and groans about Paris are pretty justified.
It was recently bought to the public’s attention she'd earned $2.7 million for just four gigs. In true Paris socialite style, she Tweeted this outrageous figure: ''Only Paris can do this RT @SuperiorPics Paris Hilton 'getting paid $2.7 for just FOUR nights work as DJ in Ibiza'''. Most now successful DJs have struggled on the way up, pouring their heart and souls into their craft. Turns out, in Paris' eyes, all you need is a seriously rich family and an all pink outfit.
A ‘Paris’ in a completely different league, Dimitri From Paris will be mixing like the master he is at this Saturday’s Glitterbox. For the same fiesta, the Flemish beauty Lady Linn will be joining Belgian duo FCL live. If you want to come and discuss burgers or have a moan about Paris Hilton, you can catch me dancing at the front for the Glitterbox pre-party at Savannah. This is one of the best spots to watch the sunset and to accompany the setting sun with some serious tunes from the Glitterbox gang: all in all a recipe for an unmissable night.
