Our resident wordsmith for the White Isle, Rose Hancock, fills us in on all the latest news, adventures and rampages from Ibiza.
Despite its admittedly deserved reputation as an expensive place to party, doing Ibiza on a budget isn't as tough as you think, especially if you’re in it for the long-haul. The workers here are masters at saving costs. The fact you can get club season passes meaning free entry to your favourite club nights all summer is one of life's great pleasures! I had no idea these passes existed before I lived out here, and it's saved us all a fair few euros.
Workers and music enthusiasts also take full advantage of Ibiza's free beach parties. Tuesday's Defected pre-parties at Savannah are a great example; always lively, with headliners smashing it on the decks and getting us all excited for the continuing fiesta later at Booom. Wednesday's Tini And The Gang beach party is a firm favourite on the island at Sands beach bar. With Robert Dietz, Guti and Cassy all part of Tini's gang this summer it's a pretty impressive free party. On Sunday's the crowds flock to Bora Bora in Playa D'en Bossa for some day time carnage.
I'm usually heading the opposite direction, to my favourite party at Beachouse, only a few beach bars down from Bora. Guy Gerber has started a new record label called Rumors, hosting his weekly Rumors party here. Last week we found ourselves hanging with some Colombian dentists on their Beachouse day beds, getting poured copious amounts of Mezcal as we enjoyed Rumors' Enzo and special guest Luciano. In my opinion, if you haven't tried Mezcal yet, don't bother unless you like the taste of bleach!
It's been a busy week as good friends finish their season early and we've been making the most of the parties. We made the most of Monday, for my friends last ever Cocoon this summer as she continues her travels. Techno god Chris Liebing joined Drumcode's Adam Beyer for Beyer's first time ever on the terrace. My girlfriends were all doughy-eyed over Ben Klock's set on the main room (he truly is a hunk), but I managed to drag them away for Adam Beyer on the terrace. Having only been on the terrace 2 days before for Music On, you can leave me in this room for days on end and I'll be perfectly happy.
Having had a busy week of partying, I've decided to spend the next few days at the gym and cleansing the mind with seeking refuge with meditation classes in the north of the island (my meditation intentions are pretty weak, let’s see if this actually happens…). Having spent Wednesday night surrounded by Roberto Cavalli models at the new Cavalli bar in the marina, I'm currently motivating myself to hit the gym and sweat out those jaegerbombs. At the Cavalli bar, these models were paid to be at the party in order to raise the standards of good looks amongst the crowd (as if I'm not enough!).
I had turned up to the Cavalli bar with denim shorts and a large rucksack, much to the disgust of my friends. I was quickly shunned to the bathroom to borrow heals and a handbag off a friend. I was a sweaty uncomfortable mess in my friend’s heels, having just returned from my shift at Ibiza Rocks. Here I work for Malibu handing out free Pina Coladas; that's my idea of a fun job! With Maribou State and Fat Boy Slim playing at my next shift this Friday, I count myself pretty lucky! I couldn't really handle the heels and made a quick exit from the glamorous Cavalli bar.
I want to be well rested for the Hemisphere of House at Saturday's Glitterbox fiesta. Joey Negro, Barbara Tucker and Simon Dunmore are trusted to create some serious fun on the dancefloor. Although I'll be sure to see some beautiful faces like at the Cavalli party, I know it's a place where I won't be feeling uncomfortable and I'll be sure to lose myself on the dance floor.
