Kim Fai has taken the scene by storm over the last year or so, with his stomping tech thumpers played by the vast majority of elite DJs. After a slew of releases he's now dropped his latest PS / Kato on Steve Angello's Size imprint. We caught up with him over email for a quick chat...

What are you doing right now?

Waiting for a connecting flight at Istanbul Airport.

What would you rather be doing?

Sleeping!

You’ve got some pretty high profile fans of your own now, but who were the people you wanted to emulate when you started out making music?

When I first started producing it was people like Full Intention, Junior Jack, Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero. Those guys were a big inspiration in my early days

Why do you think you’ve managed to get to where you are now?

Lots and lots of hard work and persistence! You only get out of life what you put into it.

Tell us about your new track, PS/Kato. What’s it about and what was the inspiration behind it?

Well I actually wrote PS around 8 months ago. I wanted to write something nice and uplifting for my sets and it’s been doing a great job so far for me! Kato was something I did more recently; lots of orchestral parts and tension, building noises. It’s also been going down really well in my sets.

What other projects have you got in the pipeline?

I’ve been working on a few bootlegs for the summer which are sounding really cool. I’m also working on lots of original stuff which I haven't had chance to do much of lately.

What’s the one piece of production equipment – Mac aside – you couldn’t live without?

I'm very much a soft synth man so it would have to be FXpansion's GURU. I absolutely love it!

Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?

Yes. My E.P. PS/Kato is out on the 19th May on Size Records so go and buy it!! :)
