Nick Curly is a name that has defined the image of the global club scene over the last few years like few others. As the driving force behind the so-called ‘Sound of Mannheim’, Curly was long considered the rising star of the international house scene, a status he has long since left behind after his subsequent meteoric rise.

With his debut artist album Between the Lines out now on Defected Records, here Curly drops an hour’s mix packed full of the deep, rolling grooves with which he has made his name.

How are you doing today?

Today I spent the whole day in the studio, finishing a remix for Monika Kruse feat Robert Owens. I'm really happy with the result and it was a great record to work on, especially Robert's incredible vocals.

You recently played the Horse & Groom in London – how was it for you?

That gig was fun. Usually I don´t play in pubs, but as it was a charity thing where lots of cool people showed up it was great. It's probably one of the smallest venues I've played for a while, but I'm glad I did it!

How and where was the mix recorded?

I recorded the mix 2 weeks ago in my studio on 2 CDJs.

Are there any particular tracks on there you’d like to highlight?

I tried to do a mix with unreleased/new stuff like the ‘Forever Groove" track from Tuccillo but also old stuff like the Carsten Yost track ‘CC01’. I always like to mix up the new and older stuff in my sets to give it a balance.

A remix version of your Between the Lines album will be released next year… how was the original response to the album?

So far the response on the album has been great. It was a big thing for me that it was signed to Defected and that also all these great remixers have worked on it. I feel honoured that so many amazing artists have been involved, and there are stil more to come!

Are you happy with how the remixes have turned out?

Of course, so far everyone did a great job with the remixes. Today I got the Larry Heard remixes which we plan to release in January.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?

I’m working on some new club tracks at the moment, so watch out!
