Hailing from Melbourne, Australia Sonny Fodera's career is starting to gain momentum. Having started producing music at a young age he has established himself as one of the world's fastest-rising house DJs and producers and as a DJ, his signature sound showcasing smooth technical wizardry combined with a music selection has proved to satisfy even the most discerning house music listeners.

Here, Fodera does his thing for the inaugural 2013 edition of In Their House.

Thanks for speaking with us, how are you doing today?

I am good! Been really busy in the studio today working on tracks for my upcoming album on Cajual Records. I am off to Auckland tomorrow to play at Ink so just getting some tunes together for that too.

What prompted you to first start producing music?

I started playing the guitar when I was 6 years old. When I turned 15 I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career and have worked hard to make that happen. I got into producing house music about 8 years ago when I saw Inland Knights play at Electric Circus in Adelaide. They really inspired me to be doing what I am today.

Your music incorporates many elements taken from jazz to funk to hip hop. Are these your first loves?

I grew up on Jimi Hendrix and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and really got into Hip Hop when I was 13. Groups like Jurassic 5, Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul have had a massive influence on my production especially my earlier stuff. I really like to incorporate these styles into my music. As a bass player I have always had a thing for a funky bassline.

How and where was the mix recorded?

I recorded the mix in my studio on my home set up.

Are there any records on there in particular you’d like to highlight?

I think the first track, it is a remix I did of the Harrison Crump track ‘No More Lies’ for Defected. I am really stoked about this release, it will by my first thing on the label! Also there is a track towards to end called ‘Theory Of Folds’ Cajmere got me onto this track, killer remix from Alexis Raphael.

Your discography is growing at a rapid rate. What inspires you most  to make as much music as you do?

Artists like Cajmere, Dusky, Huxley, Inland Knights so many to name, they keep me motivated and to keep on pushing. I love making music, I have been writing songs since I was 8 years old, it's like an addiction.

What have you got coming up this year?

I have an album coming out on Cajual Records, a remix on Defected, US/Canada tour from March - May.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?

I’m looking forward to moving back to Europe in February!
