Dutch star Dylan Hermelijn - better known under his 2000 and One alias - is an artist whose pioneering vision across two decades of music genres, now ranks him as one the most versatile, sought-after international performers, commanding weekly performances on the house, techno and tech-house global club and festival circuits.

Now, with a summer of residencies at some of the best-known clubs in the world ahead of him and productions and remixes galore on the horizon – including a superb reworking of 4th Measure Men’s seminal ‘4 You’ – 2000 and One has never been more relevant as a producer and DJ, and it is with pleasure that we present him as the ‘In Their House’ artist for March.

In Their House #05 - 2000 and One by Defected Records

Tell us about some of the highlights of the year so far…

Well 2011 began with a bang as I welcomed in the New Year with Joris Voorn, playing at the Sensation party in Germany. Other highlights so far this year include remixing 4th Measure Man's track '4 you' for Defected.

Dutch producers have really started to make their mark on the international stage of late…why do you think that is?

I guess it has to do with the history of the Amsterdam club scene back in the 90's. Club's like Roxy, Mazzo and the IT inspired all the current top party organisations and clubs like Awakening, Voltt, Trouw, Studio 80 and the Melkweg. That musical heritage has been a springboard for the global scene now and as long as the Dutch talents stay head clean and focused, I’m hoping we’ll continue to influence.

How and where was the mix recorded?

I approached the mix with Defected in mind – house tunes! And put it together in my Amsterdam studio with Ableton.

Tell us about some of your favourite tracks on the mix…

There are three that spring to mind. First is ‘Tap Deux’, a tune that Sandy Huner and I just produced as a follow up to Rare Tap. It will be released this month as well as on the Wonderland compilation CD mixed by Pete Tong and Riva Starr. The second one takes me back to a couple of years ago. I did an edit of Defected tune ‘The Cure & The Cause’ by Dennis Ferrer for DJing with, and I included that personal edit in this mix. You’ll also find a Joris Voorn remix in there from Stephan Bodzin & Marc Romboy’s original ‘Callisto’.

From someone who has been involved in many record labels over the years, what advice would you give to someone starting their own?

I have six labels and I can tell anyone that wants to do it for a quick buck, that they are going to be disappointed. It’s a long term labour of love that needs vision and patience …and if you’re lucky you won't need a 2nd job to finance it.

What have you got planned for the rest of the year?

A lot! First Sensation Belgium, then Miami gigs for the Ultra Music Festival, then my South America tour – back to Amsterdam for my Queensday label night party (29 April and the biggest annual party night in Holland). Then a tour in Asia, followed by Sensation Czech Republic and Sensation Russia which takes me up to the summer in Ibiza and Dutch festivals including Awakenings.  Production wise I have a score of remixes plus my EP “KREAMM” released on Bangbang! in April.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about?

I’m working on my 2nd album!
