For nearly a decade Emiliano Nencioni and Giacomo Godi have been producing together under the Supernova moniker, and have since become established studio wizards, remixing the likes of Kerri Chandler, DJ Chus, Cevin Fisher, Loleatta Holloway, Psycatron, Barbara Tucker and plenty more to devastating effect. However, their career has been marked by two distinct highs; firstly, their Sony BMG-released 2007 album ‘Downtown Underground’ and more recently their accidental collaboration with Kevin Saunderson on ‘Beat Me Back’, a track that pretty much sound tracked house-led Ibiza dancefloors last year and has refused to go away since.
Now, with a slew of fresh productions on the horizon and more remix work than ever being put their way, we thought we should get them involved in the In Their House series before they become too busy to ever leave the studio.
In Their House #09 - Supernova by Defected Records
How’s the year been for you so far?
It has been a great year for us so far. Our music lately has been appreciated a lot and we are travelling around the world to play in some amazing places meeting amazing people. We feel that this is the start of our story and we know we need to work hard to get more out of our careers.
How and where was the mix recorded?
We recorded it in our studio with the set up that we usually use for our live/DJ sets; 2 laptop in sync and 2 drum machine to control fx.
Judging by the tracklist you guys are fairly prolific producers and remixers…are there any tracks on there that particularly stand out for you?
Yeah, we’ve been working hard on productions and remixes lately, it's our life and we love to produce music. Regarding this mix in particular, for sure we can say that our remix of Kerri Chandler ‘Bar A Thym’ has been appreciated by a lot of people. Then we have 3 tracks that will be released soon which we hope will go down well; out remix of Freska ‘What Makes Us Loud’ (Defected), another remix of Solo ‘Midgets Go Deep’ (Lapsus Music) and Supernova ‘This Faith’ (Bla Bla).
Are there any album plans in the pipeline, or are yourconcentrating on other areas of your careers for now?
At the moment we are working on a lot of new club stuff and remixes, but for sure we want to release a new album, probably in the next couple of years.
After the ‘Beat me Back’ issue was resolved with Kevin Saunderson, there were rumours you might be collaborating on a new track. Has anything happened with that?
Yes, Kevin has recently contacted us to talk about it...so stay tuned 'cause a surprise could be on the way soon.
Who would be your dream collaboration, if you could work with anyone?
There are a lot of artists we would love to work with. It's always a pleasure to collaborate with other DJs or producers either they are famous or not. The great thing about producing music with other artists is the ‘give and take’ that comes out of it.
Anything else you’d like to tell us about…?
We are working hard on an important remix for Defected, on Soul Central ‘Strings Of Life’! Watch this space…
